There’s much I love about the Nag’s Head: the good range of beer, including an excellent Brazilian coffee stout. Fantastic live jazz/r ‘n b, lapped up by a savvy and enthusiastic group of locals. A great sense of community spirit, the likes of which is sadly rare in London. The young bartender who served me was quick, polite and helpful. I wasn’t able to try the food, hence me opting for 4 stars for now. Unfortunately the Nag’s Head stop serving at 8pm, a point rigidly adhered to, I’m guessing for licensing reasons. Still, I’d return.

Prancing down Orford Road with a friend looking to sate our hunger on a Sunday afternoon, we nipped into this charming looking pub nestled in Walthamstow Village. It is located just on the edge of the park; if it was warmer out we would have sat in the front where there was ample seating, or in the inviting rear garden. Nevermind, we went in and ordered a few beers and some food. Beers on offer included a Pale Ale and Landlord’s, which I thought was promising. Over the speakers an eclectic but good mix of music played. Patrons ranged from hipster-ish to older locals. My friend had the Caesar Salad which was a decent size and generally ok(according to her). I chose the Cheese & Mushroom Tarte, which was kind of like a snazzy pizza without tomato sauce, sprinkled with rocket(see photo I’ve uploaded). It was ok, could have done with some more flavour. The chips were disappointing: on the menu they were listed as «triple cooked» but were pretty lame and soft. Perhaps the chef lost count at one. Overall it seems like a good place for a few pints, particularly if the sun is shining. I’d skip the food in the future.

This was a lovely gold on from Colchester, which I carefully selected from a quite excellent range of beers. Would have loved to have stayed for more than one brew. The garden out back is great but there is also a lovely feel to the inside of this pub or even the smaller area out front. My personal fave in Walthamstow Funny exchange at the bar where my Mrs was behind me complaining about an arrogant Frenchman that she had encountered outside while the guy next to me at the bar, who was also French, mock defended himself to me against her points(‘I don’t know why she would say that’ ’ i don’t think i was being particularly arrogant) He knew she wasn’t really talking about him but he probably didn’t know it was the lady’s husband that he was joking with!

Probably the best pub in Walthamstow as of summer 2012(before the refurbished Bell and Chequers open, which will probably eclipse it). This is the place to come for a reasonably good beer selection(ales are reasonably well kept, some interesting bottled beer) quirky furniture, a fantastic wine-tasting night, a good vibe and a lovely beer garden. Food is ok. Reasonably good pizzas. Nothing special but welcome. Downsides are the weird antichildren policies of the landlords and their obsession with signs *everywhere* telling you how to behave!

This is a pretty pub, with a hipster-ish crowd(at least on the Sunday we visited) and some interesting sounding ales. If England manages to have any more happy sunny days this summer, the beer garden is lovely! There is plenty of space to sit, and lots of shade if you don’t fancy being too hot. For some reason the owner seems to have a mild obsession with cats. There is nothing wrong with that… but get ready to see photos and pictures of cats all over the place, not to mention a cat shrine(!) I really love kitty-cats, and so does my other half… but we still found this quite strange! The less-lovely bits: — My boyfriend didn’t like his ale(he normally loves to try interesting/less-well known beers/ale so this surprised me) — The food wasn’t very impressive at all. We tried one of their handmade burgers and lamb chops. I wasn’t blown away by either, and thought the portions were terrible considering the price! DON’T come for the food… but it seems like a nice place to relax and drink.

I’m worried that one day the buggy lot will kill this place and turn it into a mums & tots day care nursery like all the other pubs in E17 there are times when even parents want a break from kids, babies, nappies and baby talk !! When I go out for a quiet drink I don’t want to hear the crying sounds of little Oliver no matter how much he is only expressing himself Thank god for a quite pub that’s not a smelly old mans pub or a nursery Please keep this pub as it is and leave us quiet ones a place to rest and enjoy a drink with the papers

Okay pretty pub if a tad overpriced, there are pictures of cats absolutely everywhere including one of a cat wedding taken in the beer garden which gives it a decidedly creepy atmosphere and I keep expecting the crazy cat lady from the Simpsons to come out at any moment.

I love that they are totally kid-unfriendlythere are far too many places that are kid-friendly in walthamstow so much so, that when I have some time without my child, I’m always surrounded by other people’s less well behaved ones! However, they take their kid-unfriendliness and seem to apply it to everyone. i have never been in a pub where the bar staff are so miserable and sometimes occasionally aggressively so! I am happy to go once a monthe for our Book Club as it’s a lovely pub, real old-fashioned and comfortable however, they are extrmely over-priced, unwelcoming and once a month is more than enough for me!

Aspall on tap is a good enough reason to visit; that children are banished after 730pm is another. Kids in pubs Whatever next?

I love this pub, esp in summer. Great beer garden, lovely staff and nice surroundings. Based at the top of Walthamstow village, its a nice, quiet and warm atmosphere.

Nice place, would definitely visit again. Lovely beer garden which looks exactly like the beer garden of the Wrestlers in Highgate, weirdly.

Old pub in picturesque Walthamstow Villiage, nice for a pub lunch or quick break away from the busy town centre, just minutes away. Nice range of beer, in the summer, nice to sit outside.

Great pub in Walthamstow village with a good range of beers and pleasant ambience, light and airy inside but still comfortable and cosy. Seats outside are enjoyable in the warm. Was famed for its friendly cat until she recently passed on.
