History
Established in 2011.
Make Do was lovingly born in a family kitchen in North London. The school craft club was full and a disappointed mother decided to take matters into her own hands. This particular mother happened to be a dab hand with a needle and thread and an all-round crafty momma.
Word spread and the family’s kitchen became a hub for craft-loving kids and grown-ups. Make Do rapidly grew out of the family kitchen and a small but perfectly formed shop on a Stoke Newington back street became a treasure trove of beautiful beads, buttons and thimbles. Make Do HQ is now home to themed and seasonal workshops for kids and adults and brilliant crafty parties for kids.
Meet the Business Owner
Mekette C.
Business Owner
Mekette began tinkering with old sewing machines at the ripe age of 5 thanks to her craft-loving seamstress mother. After studying fashion at college, she went on to do a BA in Fashion at London’s celebrated Central Saint Martins.
Mekette worked for British fashion designer, Betty Jackson and knitwear designer Winni Lok before having two lovely little ladies of her own, Ariella and Mira.
She began by volunteering as a craft teacher at Ariella’s nursery who soon developed her own love of handicrafts. So, after 3 years of trying to get her daughter and friend’s into the school craft club, Mekette decided to start her own club around the family kitchen table.
And so Make Do was born and continues to grow lovingly and organically, spreading smiles and skills around the local community.
