I’ve been to this restaurant before, a few years back. Nothing has changed since but the food was still good. I ordered Meat Vindaloo(very good) and Naan(ok), I ordered one Chapati(very good) to try, I would recommend it over the Naan. Service was friendly but as in other reviews, the waiter was«over suggesting». The place is very tight but overall we enjoyed the food.

Fair place to stop by for a bite to eat. This place was round the corner from my hotel, and though it’s a bit unclean in the edges, the food is okay.

This was my first London curry house experience. My boyfriend is English and we live in Los Angeles. He was very excited for me to experience a curry house in London, as he thinks that they are much better than the ones we have locally. Maharaja is not better than what we have in California. He agreed. The food was okay, but nothing special. The problem with that is London is a big city and has so many restaurants competing for our business, that we should never have to settle for a mediocre meal. It is our fault for not researching our restaurants better before hitting the city. Additionally, the food was pricy and the service was slow. We had two servers, one was friendly and the other one, not so much. There is really no reason that we would return to Maharaja on future trips.

The food was good, the service was good. It was a very tight squeeze, I felt a little claustrophobic sitting there. Anyway, there are tons of awesome Indian places in Chicago so this was just an okay resto.

Good food for the $$ in London’s relatively trendy /very ethnic Queensway area. Vindaloo was spicy, more chili than Indian spices(though they were in there) — no potatoes in the curry, which maybe a UK thing. Mouth is still burning. Place is worth a visit if you’re looking for good, not great Indian food on a cold London night(as I was!) Service was good enough for a touristy area… Chili taste brought it down a star, recipe(where’s the potatoes?) lost a half, the fact they charge for the«add ons» to the papadums is ridiculous — minus ½ star.

We were tricked into this restaurant from the look of it from the outside and the fact that it was busy and the menu seemed pricy(which we thought would mean quality food). From my experience of eating Indian cuisine all over the UK and in India, this has got to be the worst curry in life ever! My Lamb Tikka was a tiny portion of two cubes, the quality of the lamb was poor and consisted of mainly fat, and the taste was sweet which is wierd for a lemb tikka. My Paneer main course was the worst Paneer dish I have ever come accross, it was sickly. The service was poor, and the papadums were the nicest part of the meal but the papadums cost a fortune here which is why they kept wanting to fill be up with them. Overall a crap place, no, I’ll go even further very crap!

Avoid this place. The food is just average and as others have said the waiters don’t take no for an answer as they try to up sell you. And then when they can’t up sell you they bring out a dish with chutney for you to use with your meal. The surprise comes when you get your bill and they charge you .95 p for it. To make matters worse they add in their gratuity charge. Do yourself a favor, walk past this place and avoid these scam artists.

We stopped here for a late night curry after a meal at another restaurant left us dissatisfied and hungry. Boy did we make the right choice! The waiters were very pleasant, helping us choose between curries, naan, and types of rice. It was made quickly; less than ten minutes after we walked in our take out order was bagged up and waiting for us. The chicken makhani was outstanding as was the chicken tikka jalfrezi. The portions were perfect, the food well priced, and the staff was courteous. Can not recommend this place enough!

The food here was good. It wasn’t the best but it was good. I may change my review when I come back and find out that they have better dishes. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer, and Vegatable Biryani and they were all good. There’s was absolutely nothing wrong with the dishes but there was also nothing special about them either. The great thing about this place is that they have excellent customer service. Well, at least in comparison to the Curry Palace place just a few buildings away. Though, all of my customer service experience comes from take-away. I’ve never actually eaten at the restaurant. I recommend this place.

A good Northern Indian food experience. The tandoori fish was well prepared. The fish was cooked whole in the tandoori, crisp on the outside and moist in the middle. Moderately priced.

Interestingly, after taking a look at the other reviews of this place, I am getting the sense that the bad waiter experience my group had was not an isloated incident. At least I now know we were specifically being targeted for some reason(being American perhaps). The waiter kept insisting on things we didn’t want. He tried to sell us combos and suggested we order more food. It’s fine to make friendly suggestions, but when the table isn’t responding to anything you say, you need to know when to back off. In the end, it turned out that we had plenty of food and would have had waaaaay too much had we listened to his suggestions. On top of that, the restaurant is in a tiny space. But not anything that isn’t managable. Anyways, as far as the food is concerned, it was pretty good. I ordered the chicken biriyani and was quite satisfied with it.

Good food, but a little pricey… The wait staff was the rudest I have ever experienced. We almost walked out. From the look on everyone’s faces, they felt the same too.

Outstanding food, incredibly rude waitstaff. Almost comically rude. We and the other diners actually shared a good chuckle over it. We started to call him the Curry Nazi.

Give me some of that garlic naan & tikka chicken/king prawn masala. . Basically, food is good — good portion sizes. All courses arrived quickly after ordering, and the food was appetizing and very tasty,(could ask for how spicy you want it. .) The restaurant itself is a bit of a squeeze, but service is decent.

It is a peculiar story with this place. Over a number of years we loved eating there, the food was great and really tasty. Also the waiters were OK and one was very friendly and helpful. Over a number of visits he taught us how to make our own papadoms. He gave tips how to do it and even samples of — what he thought — was the best brand. A delightful place — until(I think it was last year) we returned and a rude new waiter spoilt all our enjoyment and fun. HE wanted to tell us what to order, You must eat naan with it! Of course we didnt. A German family sitting at the next table, didnt dare to oppose the dictator. Then I knew, they only have Lamb Dhansak on the menu and favour Prawn Dhansak, so I requested it. He straightforward refused but I sent him away to tell the chef — and I got it. But, surely, we didnt go back there, though the food was still fine.(Later we found the place next door is also pretty good.) Funny enough, I read other reviews saying exactly the same. Maybe, somebody had the sense to chuck him out by now. Next time we will check first.
