Quaint little off the beaten path place you dream about stumbling upon with no agenda or expectations other than quenching your thirst. Walk in at 2:30pm and place is comfortably full with still many seats for people watching and near a window. Young server says sit anywhere you like and brings me 2 menus. When you’re ready, just step up to the counter. I’m thinking chicken pot pie with all the trimmings and a cider on tap would hit the spot… I’m sitting, here waiting for my food and admiring how understatedly cool this place is — signs saying business was established in 1850, British flags, Irish flags, soccer flags draping the ceiling, soft random rock music playing, and another sign saying«come in as strangers, leave as friends».

Found this place close to our hotel and decided to check it out. We went here for drinks on a Tuesday night. The special outside was 2 fireballs for 5 pounds. We bought that and I was surprised by how drinkable they were(I’m a baby when it comes to hard liquor). We also ordered a bottle of their house wine for 12.50 pounds. It was a Spanish white. It wasn’t my favorite wine, but still pretty good. Finally, we tried the Velvet Cider for 3 pounds, which was really interesting. I’ve never had a cider that dark before. The bartenders were friendly, the place was open to 11, and there was plenty of seating. All in all, a pretty good way to spend the evening.

Came for Sunday Roast. Got the chicken pie and the pork. They tasted like those microwave hungry man tv dinner meals you buy from the grocery store. All of it tasted overcooked and felt mushy. Too much salt in the gravies.

Great selection of ales, imported lagers, and whiskies. Nice pub, Victoriana, good atmosphere. Beer prices not crazy either. Will go again.

I went to Lord John Russell for one of their Sunday roasts and had a really nice afternoon. The atmosphere is very comfortable and fun, definitely a good place if you are looking for a good British meal with your family. The roast was great, the beer selection was very good, and the prices were so much better than the neighboring pubs. I’ll definitely be back!

Was recommended to visit to try the Budvar. Beer great, staff surly and unhelpful, will not return.

This is a decent pub with a friendly atmosphere and well-kept beer. It seems to be getting more and more popular but there’s still a decent mix of locals and others. In recent times they’ve extended the outdoor seating down the side, which is handy in summer. A far superior boozer compared to many of the tourist traps, down-at-heel old locals and wannabe gastropubs in Bloomsbury.

I was sure that I had seen this pub before, but had dismissed It as ‘not of interest’ for some reason. Perhaps because of how busy it is. It was a bit of a squeeze at first but tailed off a bit as the post work crown meandered home Was well worth a visit! 6 ales, of which 2 lovely Winter ales, in good condition. I’ll be coming back.

A really excellent, friendly pub that is great for lunchtime drinks and lazy evenings spent with friends. The food is nice as well if you are so inclined. The location is good as well — close to Russell Square and all the government buildings around Euston but still tranquil and nice.

This is one of the better pubs in this area. It’s a bit worn-down but in a friendly and laid-back sort of way, and wooden flooring is always a plus(can’t stand those manky carpets). They have a decent but unexciting selection of ales, but lo and behold there is also Budvar Dark, a very tasty dark Czech lager. Whether you sit outside or inside it’s great for people watching.
