we were recommended this place from people we me on the street. when we first walked in, the placed was full with about 97% chinese, which was a good sign. the ambiance is like all other chinese restaurants all over the world. decent style, tacky decoration and basic amenities. unlike the US, they do not bring the cart to your table, you must order from a menu. we are 2 adults with 2 adult size kids. we spent about USD$ 120 and did not get completely stuffed. so, no it was not cheap but not way out there either. based on the prices, it was higher than most other dim sum places in the area. the quality of the dim sum was authentic but boring. the reason for my low stars were mainly for service and creative math. they are super rude and unresponsive if you need something. conversely, they are super quick when you want to pay, but slow if you need water or any«special request» like chili. i asked for a small side of fresh chili and soy sauce to dip with my dim sum and they wanted to charge GBP$ 2 for it. NUTS! i eat very spicy and ask for this kind of stuff all the time at other asian restaurants in other parts of the world with no problem. i had to beg for water refill and ask many times. when the bill came, they were super quick and i tried to add up the math and it would not add up. so, they showed it to me on the calculator and i found out they add 10% tip with every meal no matter the size of he party. i was told by other Londoners that this was sometimes practiced by restaurants and we had the option to pay or not pay the tip added to the bill. so, i made them change the amount and they were not happy. but, i made do it anyway. i HATE any restaurants that hold their customers in hostage because they feel they can do it because we are in their place of business. you have us as a captive audience once we start eating BUT, it does not mean that we are stupid enough to not do the math and pay you things that you did NOT earn, like your total lack of service.

Decent Chinese food; actually, the Chinese food is pretty good as compared to the other Chinese restaurants I’ve tried outside of New York. The duck tasted pretty good but the tofu was better. The scrambled egg with string bean was decent, not dry. The vegetable, sweet and sour pork and pan fried chicken with pepper were all mediocre. Overall, it was pretty good.

I came here with a friend to celebrate Chinese New Year, Year of the Sheep! OK, we mainly came to see the colourful parade and as an excuse to eat Dim Sum. As if you need an excuse to eat Dim Sum! It got to 11:30am and frankly we were hungry. So we went for it. Brunch Dim Sum, why not! We were welcomed in with typical Chinese restaurant welcome, brisk and efficient. It was a good thing actually we came early, after about half an hour you would not have got a seat anywhere in Chinatown. In true Dim Sum style, we went for one too many dishes than needed. I always seem to do that somehow, but Dim Sum is just SOTASTY. It was also nice to go to Dim Sum with another person who had been before, so you didn’t have to try and explain with the idea behind Chinese dumplings. We ordered Char Siu buns(Bau), Prawn Dumplings(Siu Mai), Pork Dumplings(Har Gau), Vietnamese spring rolls, sticky rice in lotus leaf, Turnip cake, Calamari and Sweet BBQ fried dumplings. All wonderful with the exception of the sticky rice, which ironically was a bit too sticky and glutinous for my liking — I think it dampens the flavour. Also for the price, how can I complain — £3 per dim sum, more than full enough between the two of us for £17 each. YESPLEASE

Awful food, terrible manager. Waste of time. Shut this place down. Doesn’t deserve to be here

Cheap dim sum!(for London). Very traditional Cantonese style food at some pretty good prices. A plate of noodles was around £6, which is a steal in London. Dim sum dishes — of which they had many, were around £2.30-£3.50. Also… a ton of Chinese people eating here!(a great sign). Staff were attentive but brusque. Bathrooms surprisingly clean(but have that strange Chinese restaurant smell to them)

Great place if you want quick service and piping-hot delicious food — it was a lucky stumble with some friends one lunchtime(great value lunch menu) and I visited there again most recently with my partner for an evening meal. Service was speedy and very friendly; each dish was well-cooked(if a touch too salty for our palate) and the Singapore noodles, in particular, was fabulous. Good choice of restaurant if you are with a group of friends and looking for decent food and an OK price.

Lido(along with Joy King Lau) is one of the two best Dim Sum restaurants in the West End serving authentic Cantonese food. The ground floor is spacious, with many good sized tables — espcially good for young children and pushchair access, and the staff are usually very welcoming(though at busy times can be difficult to draw attention to). The dim sum and lunch dishes are excellent. Well cooked & seasoned in the Hong Kong style, and arrive hot and within 10 mins of ordering. The seafood dishes are only slightly not as good as Joy King Lau(probably just the seasoning difference), but everything else is equal. We come here frequently for lunch with family & friends, and have not had a negative experience over the last several years(though it was disappointing when they closed for refurbishment in mid 2010).

LIDO is another one of my favourite Dim-Sum restaurants to visit when I am in china town. My friends and I tend to come here as the food is nice and the service is pretty good the majority of the time. It’s over two floors and pretty spacious. If you’re not sure where to go then it’s a place to try out if you haven’t. Oh they do the fried pork and chive dumplings that not many other restaurants do.

Wandering through Chinatown with the wifey and randomly decided to try out Lido. Not sure why we wanted Chinese food, but when the mood strikes for rice, you don’t suppress it. The place is nondescript, clean, and utterly indistinguishable from the multitude of other Chinese restaurants nearby. This is neither good or bad. Staff are efficient and accommodating, but not very chit-chatty if ya know what I mean… We ordered a range of items from the menu including poultry, fish, veggies, and a clay pot braise. Some hits, some misses, but nothing spectacularly great or terrible. Decent chinese food(we’re Chinese, so we ought to know). Factor in the dollar/UK pound conversion rate, and Lido loses a star for value. Guess we should’ve had a Guinness for dinner.
