How do I know it’s autumn?
The golden leaves?
The misty mornings?
QPR’s steady decline down the league after a ‘promising’ start.
No. I definitely know it’s autumn because I just ate it. And it was truly delicious.
Starter of crispy mackerel. Just how I like it. Properly burnished salty skin. But bathed in the most delicate foam with plump mussels and mushrooms.
Followed with guinea fowl, turnips, onions and some more mushroom. Done to perfection and presented with all the colours, smells and flavours of what has now officially become my favourite season.
Finished with caramelised pear tart. Just like a perfect tart tartin but with dusky pears instead.
I can taste and smell the whole thing now. And the other ‘alf had a meal of similar heady quality. Cured beef salad, followed by onion tart, finished with a warm chocolate thingy. Again, the whole thing was delightfully autumnul.
This West London stalwart continues to crank out brilliant michelin starred food with a heavy french accent. Thoroughly seasonal obviously, carefully presented by very proper staff.
If I have any gripe at all it’s the correctness of everything. Very French that. They don’t take too many risks at the Trompette with the layout and feel of the place. The service, though charming, is minimally short of formal which is a shame. The décor is beige in the extreme. They recently had a major refit and extended into the next shop but what we’re left with doesn’t feel much different or shuzzeed up from the former. The art on the wall is boring. It’s not a place to come and be bowled over with the atmosphere. It’s choc full of the moneyed French and English of the area and the vibe is a little restrained. but it’s certainly comfy and I wouldn’t call it disappointing in any way. Just, if you’re after a rave up, look elsewhere.
The only other gripe is that you have no choice of the number of courses you can have. It’s three. It’s £50. And that’s all there is to it. A real shame because I felt like I was a french goose forcing the pudding down simply because I had paid for it, delicious as it was. The portions are generous and three courses is a fair amount of food. If I had an option for two courses at between £35 and £40 I’d go back far more regularly.
Still, none of this is enough to take away a star from the consistently brilliant Trompette. Quality nosh in the suburbs and no sign of slowing down.

Wonderful. Tried the scallops (surprisingly and delightfully cold), pigeon lovely and well cooked, I had the mille feuilles for dessert but my kids had the banana soufflé which was like eating a cloud out of heaven

Suckling pig was extraordinary. Great service, and although deserts were a bit of a let down the rest of the meal was well worth the money.

Best French food I have had — yes not in France!
I loved the cheese board, guinea fowl, blueberry soufflé and presentation of all dishes. Wine was exquisite and service high quality as you would expect. Great for romantic dinner special occasion or a very nice treat!

The perfect neighbourhood place to grab a swanky dinner. Been here a handful of times and it’s never disappointed. Great french style grub and an absolutely magic cheeseboard. If you’re splashing out in Chiswick this is your first and last stop.

Good single malt selection (try the rare Adelphia). Excellent cheese board.
Attentive, knowledgeable staff, comfortable surroundings.
Quite expensive, but if you are in London, you’re used to it.

Excellent French modern restaurant, welcoming atmosphere, dishes supremely prepared and presented in very original and accurate fashion. We had the 3 course meal with a French Riesling white wine. All really satisfying. A bit pricey… but you would expect it from the kind of restaurant. Definitely worth going for a fine dinner out.

I had no idea that there is a place under the sky where such a majestic food is served I recommend this place because of the delicious cuisine and unbelievable athmosphere!

Totally delicious. I had the Chef’s special, followed the servers idea, and wrapped up off together with a nice ice cream dish .
Classic food, supplied in an unpretentious dining-​room without a whole lot of fuss. The dish definitely speaks by itself, and though non-​meat eaters could very well identify their choice quite limited, it’s a carnivore’s heaven. Quite a lot of business-​types here on a week day the afternoon meal, but the surroundings was still being fairly casual.
System was friendly, attentive and thought to be without having to be pushy or stuffy. Will truly get back on try a number of the significantly more adventurous bowls

Don’t get me wrong– the food was good, the service was annoyingly attentive, there were enough people with their noses in the air around us to make it feel special– but was it worth the price?
The simple answer is:
Not with Cote just around the corner serving up equally good food, in a less pretentious environment for something like ²⁄₃ the price.

So (as of Summer 2010) this place has a Michelin star and is in the french tradition, so of course you are going to get a beautiful meal that is executed flawlessly with excellent french matierdee, somlier and waiter to boot. Value is fair enough given the star. But as far as 5 star exceptional, this french bistro in chiswick (a town full of bistros) is not distinguished by its experience, but only by its star.
So a star is of course enough to bring in clinetele: plenty of dates w men trying to impress expensive women. Yet, I would still like something that makes me think this place should deserve a second star, something more than a over stuffed wine menu, something that excites my senses as much as my pallete?

La Trompette is one of those annoying restaurants that everyone hails as ‘the best restaurant ever blah blah blah’ and then… when you go there… you find not only were they right but it exceeds all expectations… and ‘they’ were all right… so it’s always packed but well worth booking up in advance.
One of things everyone goes on about is the amazing value of the lunchtime menu… blah blah blah. £25 for three courses blah blah blah… and it’s all true… it’s the best deal in town by a mile and you’re not made to feel like cheapskate or that you are some how ‘missing out’ on the real deal. The food is exceptional, the presentation pretty damn near perfect and the service friendly and warm but with just the right amount of attention to detail and without being overly familiar… you feel like it’s a special occasion just by being in the room. It feels like a ‘restaurant’ rather than a Brasserie and all the better for it… if you live in Chiswick as I do consider yourself blessed to have this on our doorstep… xx

Located just off King Street in Chiswick, La Trompette is one of the stable of restaurants that also include Chez Bruce in Wandsworth and The Glasshouse in Kew. They all hold a Michelin star each and you can be assured of a similar experience and standard at all 3 establishments.
I notice that dishes do ‘travel’ from one of these restaurants to another but in general, I think I like La Trompette the best out of the 3 places. It just seems to have the ingredients I like best more of the time — foie gras and duck, for example.
The restaurant has the sense of calm and cosseting with its smooth service. The food is good quality French brasserie in origin and style and it’s executed well. A good example would be a favourite dish from one of my recent visits — duck magret, crisp pastilla of confit leg and foie gras, glazed endive, spiced duck jus. The duck was prepared in different ways, all delicious and allowing the primary ingredient of duck to take centre stage but the delicate spicing of the jus was necessary to counterbalance the richness of the duck and the foie gras.
I would like to trumpet La Trompette for special occasion dining.

It was our monthly date, my husband and I go on a date once a month, this French treasure was our destination for this month.
We couldn’t go at night but the atmosphere still seemed as romantic (maybe because it is winter and outside it is always dark!). We were warmly greeted and shown to our table, as we had heard it was better to reserve in advance. A very stylish feel to the restaurant and very intimate. We came wanting to eat really nice food and not wanting to spend way too much. t was just what we got. We had the three course set menu for £37.50. Wide selection of appetizers, mains and dessert, but definitely the best was the roast pork with vacherin (my favourite french cheese) stuffed potatoes. It was also accompanied by black pudding which I don’t like so I got it substituted by more veggies. They have 25 pages of wines to choose from everywhere in the world and regions, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg, Chile, California, Washington, Lebanon, and many more!
An exceptional afternoon, next time I would like to pay the extra fiver for their cheese board which looked amazing, I had a peek at our neighbours’s board.

Have eaten here 4 or 5 times and it is wonderful. Usually on business accounts when I haven’t had to worry about the prices, but also they do a great value fixed price lunch which is excellent. The service is spot on. The restuarant is usually full of people having business lunches and the place feels formal at lunchtime. It would also be suitable for special occassions /​anniversary dinner etc
Have never had a dish I didn’t like here, everything is cooked beautifully as you would expect from one of London’s top rated restaurants.
It’s on Devonshire Rd (just off Chiswick High St) where there is very limited parking, nearest tube is Turnham Green.

This is the easiest review I will write. Michelin starred and well worth it, this is the best restaurant in Chiswick if not West London. Now much more than a local gem this will bring in diners from far and wide.
Happily appearances can be deceptive as the restaurant is quite un-​assuming and even dull to look at from the outside. However step in and you will experience a wonderful meal coupled with excellent service.
A very French feel to it (as you would imagine bearing in mind the name) they also do a fixed priced menu from £37−50 although expect the wine from the extensive selection to be expensive.
To conclude — One of thebest best with a big wow factor — be careful and it doesn’t need to be mega expensive and the ideal place for a special evening /​meal. Expect to book well in advance.

Excellent restaurant (and now with Michelin star I believe). Offers a good value £25 three course lunch option for those that want to sample without the expensive of a full dinner.
As you would imagine for a good French restaurant the wine list is very comprehensive with some very good bottles on.
Overall, one of the places to eat in Chiswick.

Situated just off Chiswick High Road, 5 minutes’ walk from Turnham Green station, La Trompette has long been mentioned as Chiswick’s best restaurant, and it seems that word’s got around as the place was completely full on a cold and wet Tuesday evening, so, before reading any further, it seems necessary to book unless you want to chance it.
The restaurant itself has a relaxed feel and atmosphere, with a mixture of clientele ranging from casual diners to people talking business on their expense accounts. Something I always look out for in a restuarant is an up-​to-​date menu (avoid laminated ones at all costs) — it seems the menu here changes slightly every day and the one given to me had today’s date on it — surely a good sign :)
Food itself was very very good — I’ve uploaded three furtive photos of the meal I had, plus one of the menu so you can get a good idea of the range of food they have. All excellently presented, we both agreed that our main courses were the best, both the lamb and the beef being cooked perfectly. The wine list is extensive, with the Sommelier bursting at the seams to give you his knowledge about the fruitiness or spiciness of your particular choice! Wine is decanted into a erm decanter at your table.
I wouldn’t quite put this in the Michelin star league (I think it had one last year, but don’t think it’s got one this year — although I’m quite prepared to be corrected about this) but it’s very good, both from quality of food and service points of view, with little to grumble about.
One further point — I was told that it was hugely expensive by friends, although in actual fact, it was a 3-​course menu for £35, which I think, for its quality, is very good value. I don’t think you’d come out of here £500 lighter (as the rumours go), unless you get the bottle of 1990s Bordeaux for a few pounds shy of half a grand! Like I’ve said before, a sign of a good restaurant is whether you’d go back, which I would, and judging by how busy it was, others do too.

Long lost twin of chez bruce, situated just off the Chiswick high road, and interestingly directly under a friend’s flat! Actually not long lost twin at all, they are run by the same team, and this is equally as good as its Wandsworth pal.
With huge glass windows leading into an open plan bright clean and spacious dining area, you are immediately in a welcoming environment, and this just gets better and better. With very similar food to chez bruce, focusing on top quality ingredients cooked to perfection, and offering food you just won’t get elsewhere, there is no reason not to choose this place above any other. Also, wonderful service and fantastic wine list. Wow.

Chiswick’s première restaurant and one of the best regarded restaurants in the capital. It was a surprise when LT opened because before then Chiswick had nothing to compare with the top restaurants towards the centre of town.
Centred around SW France charcuteries, foie gras and confits, sometimes the menu can be «too meaty». But there’s always a choice, even for vegetarians. Recommended are roast rib of beef, red mullet with ratatouille and ravioli of rabbit with spring greens. Wine list is well appointed, with 600 bins mainly from Burgundy overseen by an award winning sommelier.
Expensive and one for the business account, birthdays or anniversaries.
