Stayed at the Kensington West as it was so cheap-about £30 a night, which was really cheap for London. It’s a really basic hotel but it’s absolutely fine. It has all the basics and free hot drinks. When I woke up in the morning there were ants in my bedroom which I reported to reception. The woman was extremely apologetic, gave me a full refund on my room, and a free breakfast. Although ants in the room isn’t great, it wasn’t that much of an inconvenience, and the way it was dealt with fantastic. I would stay there again.

Thinking it would be a great me-time for the weekend, I found a deal online showing that from 95 to 75, they dropped it to 55 pounds for a double room that night, same rate for a single, so I thought, wow I just scored an excellent deal, right? So I packed my new books, best soap from Lush to run in the bath and my favorite silk pajamas just to basically indulge in reading and relaxation. To be fair, location wise is okay. It is near the West Kensington station and though it took me a few Q & A’s, I managed to reach my destination. Whatever photos you see online is pretty much as it is, only you’d find out that it really is a very refurbished building, if there’s even such a label! The male receptionist was pretty much okay, not the warmest creature on earth but he did what he had to do, especially when he had to assist me when the key card didn’t work at first. Upon entering, you’d see a pretty small room with the basics, the bed and the rest room. I have to warn you that there is no such thing as soft lighting in here or mood lighting per se, its just a choice between the usual standard bulb, the TV being turned on for light or the mini-bedside lamp that hardly sustains reading. They did provide free wifi too, so I went online, breaking the rule of relaxing and getting away from it all in the first place. The toilet and bath was small yet decent. The tub was very small and narrow, you could only fit an anorexic. Seriously. It could just be me or the room that was assigned to me that day but at some point, it felt comfortable but a little concerning which is why I had to close the windows. I’m not the world’s biggest complainer and whiner(yet!), but I really felt that I could have stayed somewhere else for a better value.

3.5 Stars. On my last Euro trip in 2007, some friends and I stayed in London for three days to take in the sights. We found this little hotel in the West Kensington area of London on Expedia. For what we paid(a triple), it was fairly reasonable. We came in from Heathrow on the Underground. The hotel is located several blocks from the West Kensington stop, so it’s not that bad of a walk(if you’re wheeling one piece of luggage). Hailing a Black Cab is not really necessary. After exiting the Underground, you’ll cross one busy intersection(Talgarth Rd) and then walk a couple of blocks through a residential area. The place was clean and looked like it had been renovated recently(in 2007). We tried to check in, but we were a little early and our room wasn’t ready. We killed some time, using their wi-fi. When the room became ready, we hauled our luggage through the maze of stairways to get to our room; elevator was being serviced on our visit. The rooms are small, with very little room between the beds. Since all we really needed from the room was a place to wash up and sleep, it was fine. The bathroom kept the same proportions as the room… it was tiny. They had a small pedestal sink which I struggled to keep the water within the sink when washing my face or shaving. The shower barely left any room for maneuvering. But at least there was hot water. Staff was friendly, however I recall seeing most of the housekeeping staff out on the steps smoking, rather than cleaning. It’s clean, well-lit, and contemporary. They don’t have any dining facilities, but there are some eateries close by. The neighborhood is fairly quiet, with the occasional hounds barking in the distant. Overall, the Kensington West is a decent hotel, if you’re just looking for a place to sleep and wash up.
