Kasbah

We rocked the kasbah!
I really liked this place… service, food, everything!
Hubby and I went with a bottle of Moroccan red wine, which was super reasonable at a mere 12 pounds. We split an appetizer, hummus which was accompanied by whole wheat pita. the hummus was really fresh and you could tell that it wasnt the normal type of hummus that has no flavor. I really enjoyed it
We also split the lamb tagine with vegetables and couscous, which I was super impressed with. It was nice and healthy and the lamb was moist and deliciously flavored. I do like spicier food so maybe I could have asked for some hot sauce but i was nicely flavored as is.
We ended the evening with the moroccan mint tea, which I have to say was super delicious and a perfect end to the meal. We will come back to smoke some hookah (people can smoke outside) when we have more time — looked fun!

I really liked the Lamb and Prune Tagine. My wife liked her dish, and she has pretty refined tastes, so that is a good indicator.
Average meal was between £10 and £14. I thought the portions were a little small, but I’m an overweight American, so of course I would think that.

My friends took me to Kasbah for my birthday treat. I was surprised at the choice of venue … since most of my friends prefer to stay north of the river … but this restaurant pleasantly surprised me. A solid 4 stars.
Its a small Moroccan place close to Clapham Common. There are a few tables out on the sidewalk for people wishing to smoke. The interiors are designed to resemble a house with mud walls with lights in small holes in the wall. It looked a bit like pictures i have in my mind of Timbuktu in Mali (not too far from Morocco).
There were 3 veggies and 2 meat eaters among us. So we ordered a wide range of dishes. The sardines were good. I ate it with the bones and everything. The lamb sausages were amazing. For my main course i had lamb tagine with couscous. It was very well prepared with a lot of gravy and vegetables. The couscous was served separately which i thought was unusual. But that enabled me to just take the amount i needed. One of my friends ordered the vegetable tagine. He is one who doesn’t like any cuisine besides some types of Indian food. So i was pleasantly surprised when he praised his food. Speaks a lot about the dish. The mousaka was also nice.
We had a bottle of moroccan rose wine. It wasn’t as strong as i would have liked but was quite tasty.
I got the impression that Kasbah is a place where people come to have leisurely long and relaxed dinners. Nobody seemed to be in a hurry, which was a bit anoying at times as the waiter took inordinately long to serve us and get the cheque. But he made up for it by giving us african caps to wear and took some snaps of the group.
Kasbah is not cheap, but not too expensive either. Some of us felt that the main courses should have had a bit more stuff for the price that was being charged. With dessert and wine it would come to ~£25 per head. But since i didn’t pay, i don’t care for now :)

The great thing about Clapham is that there are some great restaurants, most of which are very budget friendly. Kasbah is one of these and serves a range of Moroccan dishes.
I have been here now around four times and on every visit the food has been delicious. The sharing starter platter is highly recommended and has a selection of bread, fish, humus, salsa, prawns and salad, all for £8. This would probably suffice as a snack if you aren’t too hungry as there is plenty of it!
The main courses are authentic and and served in traditional Moroccan ceramic dishes which adds a nice touch. The lamb meals are wonderful and the service is fantastic. They also serve a good range of traditional Moroccan wines.

I’ve been here a few times before going to see a movie at the Picture house. Gets pretty busy after 7.30pm each night. The food is amazing, especially the lamb tagine. They bring the food out in little tagine dishes and the flavour of the food is authentic. One of the waiters is a bit of a joker but definately friendly and efficient staff.

I have been here 4 or 5 times for food and absolutely recommend it!
Their starter to share is so yummyit usually consists of bric, fish, hummous, salsa, prawns and salad, all for £8.
The main courses are very authentic and and served in traditional morroccan ceramic dishes. I would recommend the lamb tagine and the fish dishes.
The service is friendly and efficient.
I am definitely going to be going back.
