Kaizo Hairdressers

Surprised no one has reviewed this yet. I called around Shoreditch salons last Friday looking for someone who would take a last minute appointment. This is the only place that would accept my appointment so I went even though I was a bit sceptical since I couldn’t find any recent reviews online.
I booked in for a half head of highlights (including toner, excluding blow dry) with Paulo which came to £75. The salon itself is simple but unpretentious with really good coffee and magazines.
Paulo was very thorough, most stylists rush through my hair since it’s extremely thick but he took his time.
The highlights turned out nice and bright and even, Usually stylists only do my roots which means I end up with 10 different shades. And the polished it off with a toner that took my hair from a brassy blonde to a light vanilla. Can’t recommend enough, go see Paulo if you’re blonde.
Also, the chairs that you sit in while getting your hair washed are massage chairs, which I’ve never seen at a salon.

Edited on Feb 20^th: Came back for my haircut. Hadn’t a clue what I wanted to do with it other than maintain the length. Yuka thought about it for about five minutes before deciding she’d give me J. Lo’s latest look (a romantic one with a soft fringe and a slight natural wave).
She went about it in a professional manner so that I had a good idea of what it would look like and could chime in at any time. She also taught me what I could do to style it while in the office instead of tying it up in a ponytail as I always do.
I love Yuka’s creativity. She says that there’s something about me that makes her want to challenge herself to come up with a new look for me, which I take as a massive compliment because I love change!
Kaizo’s launched a new loyalty programme if you book your next appointment within eight weeks of the visit. Ask them for more details when you’re there. Also, there’s a referral programme where your friend (the referral) gets 30% off services if you just fill in a card/​voucher and pass it to them for their visit.

I decided to go all out for my Christmas party this year and get my hair done. After a little Googling, Kaizo seemed to be the best in terms of price and location. I called up, spoke to Jean who patiently talked me through the difference between a ‘restyle’ and an ‘updo’ and also offered some advice based on my description of the dress. Satisfied, I booked an appointment for the day of the party with Yuka, the Creative Director.
Come the day of the party, I rocked up to Kaizo, showed Yuka a photo of me in my absolutely stunning dress, as well as three pairs of shoes (as I hadn’t yet decided which pair to wear). She took one look at the fiercest pair and declared that those were the ones to go with the dress. That settled, she offered two hair options: edgy or soft. I went for edgy (you only live once) and she came up with something amazing (a la Danii), something I’d never imagine asking for but which looked stunning. She also helped do my eyeliner once I mentioned that I wasn’t going to use any as I didn’t know how to do it myself.
Midway through, I expressed some concern about the fact that I hadn’t had time to change into my dress before going to the salon (as I was delayed by work), but she assured me that my hair would stay in place despite the windy conditions outside. And that was indeed true.
How did the hairstyle go down? It went down fantastically well. I could see heads turn as I walked down the street… and because the hair was just so edgy, I swear it made a difference to the way I walked because I was working it, and working it hard, baby.
And when I threw in the fantastically sexy dress and gorgeously fierce shoes, I blew everyone away. Even my boss couldn’t recognise me!
I’d definitely recommend Yuka for any party dos. I’m also considering coming back here rather than my fall-​back hairdresser for my next haircut.
