Jubilee Line

While on «holiday» in London, I tended to use the Underground quite a lot, as it is a great method of quick transportation, and one of my more favoured and most used lines was «Jubilee»
The Jubilee Line has 27 stations from Stanmore to Stratford, hence you can get to central London (Westminster, Baker Street, Green Park), train stations (Stratford, London Bridge, Waterloo), sports venues (Stratford for Olympic Park and Wembley Park for Wembley)
All stations after (and including Green Park) towards (and including) Stratford all have wheelchair access too, with lifts at all stations (although try to avoid Westminister with only one lift working and that being manned by staff — August 2015), and even markings on the floor for where to get on to avoid steps at certain stations, such as Wembley Park, making it one of the more accessible stations on the tube.
The Jubilee line also has some very nice stations, I do like how they have the tube logo and name in 3D, as it makes the station look nicer and more modern, and adds a twist to make you know you are on the London underground, not New York, not Rome, not Munich.
As with the rest of the underground, trains seem to run quite quickly and on time across this line, and I didn’t notice any disruptions to any major, noticeable lengths anyway. The trains did seem to be a little busy, but rarely so busy it was uncomfortable, hard to have breathing room or simply have to wait for the next train.
Even though the final 12 stations on the line are step free, I do feel this line is let down as anything in the Stanmore direction from Green Park on this line is a no go, and I think it would have been better to spread out the accessible stations, than to put them all out in one go, meaning that it can be prolonged and a negative experience if you need somewhere between (or close to) West Hampstead and Bond Street, with the nearest accessible stations to them being Kilburn and Green Park respectively.
I feel this line in particular deserves 3 stars, considering aspects of the accessibility and some minor issues at stations, I do feel it is annoying that probably one of the newer, more accessible tube lines is simply, like the underground, not accessible enough, and considering a few minor issues with some stations not resembling the «new» line and being very modern at all, so it really doesn’t feel like the new line at all in some areas.

So, I’m going to let you in on a little secret. This is my ‘SHIT I’M SO EFFING LATE’ transport resort. It’s when I miss my train from bexley and there is only one every 20 minutes, if at all, and I need to get into central. STAT.
So I grab a lift down to the North Greenwich, zoom down the a2, which is 15 minutes, and then hop on the Jubilee line and 15 minutes later, I’m in central and it cuts my journey time by HALF. (it takes me a hour to get in from Bexley, with waiting time and delays etc)
Because the Jubilee line is so new, it’s pretty clean in most stations, and some of the stations are super safe like the the HK counterparts where there is a glass barrier until the train gets here then it open, so drunk people don’t fall into the tracks. Or crazy rabid Justin Bieber fans after his spectacularly late show at the O2.
It’s convenient for EVERY where you need to be, taking you to Stratford West Field, and Olympic Park to Wembley Arena, stopping at O2 arena Greenwich, Oxford street (bond Street) and Piccadilly (green park) and also Westminster and London bridge.

On a recent trip to London, I found myself at a place many Londoners don’t actually: The O2 Arena. It’s just getting a new lease on life as an arena after years of sitting idle, more of an eyesore than a place to go. Nonetheless, it served as a great meeting place for us as we caught up with friends in the city and the ‘burbs. Thus, taking the Jubilee Line on the tube became old hat to us after awhile.
Like all the trains we took while there, I found this line to have super comfortable seats, be timely and prompt, and always have stops that were clean. It also wasn’t über crowded most times of the day, which made for easy travel. Honestly, as far as public transportation goes, I really have no complaints at all when it comes to London’s tube system. And, with a name like Jubilee, what’s not to like about this one? ;)

The new section is pretty fancy with doors to let you know where the train kinda stops. It takes the fun away of guessing where the doors will be to get on/​off.
Although once you become a regular you kinda know where that will be.
Being the newest doesn’t excuse it from having delays or problems that afflict all lines.
It’s a busy one as it goes from central London to Canary Wharf where half a billion people are rushing around to get to work in the morning.
At the other end, you used to see former mayor Ken Livingstone ride the train into Southwark I think.

While I spend most of my travels on the «not a» Circle Line between Paddington and Liverpool Street, I occasionally need to go elsewhere and the Jubilee Line is usually going to take me. It’s the method with no transfers from Baker Street to Canary Wharf and Stratford.
The Jubilee Line opened officially in 1979 and it has the gray color on the Beck’s map partly to celebrate the Queen’s «Silver Jubilee». Going from Stanmore in the northwest through Westminster and over the Thames to Waterloo, the line goes back under the river at Canary Wharf and then again between North Greenwich and Canning Town. Trivia: It crosses the Thames four times, more than any other line.
Many of the Jubilee stations have the platform edge doors. When the train stops at the platform, the train doors align with the platform doors. This makes it impossible to fall (or drop something) on the tracks but it means twice as many moving parts. The doors have failed before, including a recent incident where (literally) a screw fell in the door track and caused absolute mayhem on the lines.
They’re saying that the Jubilee Line will be carrying most of the passengers to and from the 2012 Olympics. If you’re reading this and you’re at the Olympics, how about showing me some «compliment love»!

I hate you.

I like the Jubilee Line. The new, clean and clearly lit platforms. The thoughtful safety barriers at some stations and the ease of getting to the O2 venue. I’m almost tempted to visit further into SE London (haven’t been there in ages), but haven’t found reason yet.
I…just…wish…I…didn’t…get…so… squished in the mornings! During the rush hour it gets so crammed. The ground signs that bring some order to boarding become none existent. I realise almost everywhere gets busy on the LU, but it really feels as if, since the extension, it takes the squeeze a bit further.
Regardless, I like it all the same.

I could never ride the Jubilee line without thinking how scary it was that the trains could drive themselves and they only had drivers because TFL realized that people would be scared to death to see a driverless train coming down the track…
That being said, I think that the Jubilee line isn’t too bad. I never seemed to have any problems finding a seat or navigating around the stations on the line. Some of the stations are a bit futuristic (Canary Wharf is a pretty cool one) but that’s what makes this line nice to take. That and every once in a while you would get one of the newer trains that still had that new train smell. Or at least not smell like vomit and urine.

Considering this is the newest London Underground line, it is poor. With frequent delays, the line being down for work at weekends and long waits between trains, it trauly is a disappointment.
This frustration is obviously compounded by the absolutely maddening scheduling which happens during events at the O2 Arena when London Underground will run the service when the event at the O2 isn’t on and then shut down the line just when people would be using it to get to the venue.
They still some time to rectify things before the London Olympics (3 years and counting) and as I’ll be paying for the Olympics for decades to come being a London council tax payer, I hope that an improvement in our public transport will be the lasting legacy the Games leave us

This is the slowest and worst line. I used to take it from Queensbury to North Greenwich, when I went to school down there. It is the most painstakingly slow mess of a line. Metropolitan is much better. Northern Line is eons better. Transferring at London Bridge to Jubilee to avoid taking this stinking line the whole way from Mill Hill, was better than riding this snail of a line the whole way.
What people can not walk from Finchley Road to West Hampstead. It is what like 500 yards away. Please. I would not take this line unless there was no other way.

Grey line…
I give the grey line a 4 star — as I think this tube line is the most modern line London has!
When you arrive at Waterloo, a big train station, the deep-​underground line station has glass doors, which only open when the tube arrives. Did you know that the gaps at the many stations cause lots of passenger injuries, as some of them forget to lift their legs high enough. When I take the Jubilee Line, usually I am in a hurry to get to the train station, so every minute is carefully planned. Jumping on the train, my handbag got recently stuck, luckily not myself, as this can really hurt. The doors are difficult to open. I needed help by a gentleman; together we pulled and pulled until finally my bag was inside. This are moments of panics but afterwards I could not stop laughing by myself to the annoyance of other passengers.

I must admit I do find it kind of amusing that people review train lines. I mean, is it really going to make a difference?. Could someone on Unilocal make you dash out in the morning to sample the Hammersmith & City Line?. I don’t know.
What I do know is that the Jubilee Line runs pretty smoothly. I also know that there’s nothing worse than arriving at Stratford Station when you have seven minutes to get to work and you see the dreaded ‘Train Ready’ sign. No matter how fast you sprint, you’re not going to make it in time.
The Jubilee Line is better than many other lines for a few reasons; one of them being the doors that sit between the platform and the trains. I’m not sure what the point is, maybe an anti-​suicide measure?. The only thing I do know is that one time the silver door wouldn’t open at Baker Street on my carriage; so everyone else managed to get off apart from me. Typical.
Also, the hilarious thing about arriving at Stratford on the Jubilee Line is the hilarious voice of the dude who sounds about 189 years old; as he says «This train terminates here, all change please». Sounds like a normal phrase, but when you hear old man Jubilee saying it, it is truly legendary. I actually think it’s not a recording but a crazy old man they keep locked up in the station.

Anything that services the hard to reach south east is doing well. The Jubilee Line runs west from Stratford. It then turns north at Southwark, travels through zone one before settling on a north westerly path similar to the Metropolitan line. Unlike the Metropolitan line though the Jubilee has many stops beyond zone one.
The trains are frequent and fast and rarely breakdown. Some of the major stops are London Bridge, Waterloo, Bond Street and Baker Street.
The Jubilee line also has the safety conscious glass doors to stop people throwing themselves under trains. This is a good line.
