Joseph Grimaldi(1778 – 1837) A sweet park in Islington, north London where you can find the eponymous grave of the greatest comic genius. According to a plaque on his grave, ‘he was adored by all and could fill a theatre anywhere’ & says«a great artist & a great man.‘ The grave is located in a corner of Joseph Grimaldi Park, just north of Pentonville Road, close to where he lived throughout his life.

Interesting little park, split in to four areas with walls and some buildings dividing them. Two small areas alongside Pentonville Road seem to have formerly been a churchyard, as they have gravestones stacked along the walls. Here you’ll find formal beds and benches to sit. The grave of Joseph Grimaldi, known as the king of clowns, is situated in the top one(the park is on a hillside). Further from the main road are two larger areas. The bottom one is not pretty. It contains a large tarmac court with holes in the netting, and a large children’s play area which looks excellent. Up from that is a lovely area with lawns and trees(it’s well shaded on a hot day). The park is a short walk down a steep hill from Chapel Market. Maybe worth a diversion if you want somewhere cool and secluded to eat your lunch, have children who’d like the play area, or are interested in the grave.
