Jack the Ripper Tour

I went on a tour with a guide who seemed somewhat new. He dressed up like a man of the times when Jack the Ripper was alive, which I liked as part of setting the scene, and he was ultra nice and actually seemed to know a lot of the history of London when you asked… But, unfortunately a lot of his knowledge didn’t make it into his presentation, and his presentation was a bit dilute. So, although I learned more than I remember about Jack the Ripper than I would have had I not done the tour, I didn’t learn as much as I had hoped about him – or London. Plus, since I went in the summer, the draw of «Ripper Vision» kind of went to waste. First of all, this Ripper Vision is just the cool name given to them projecting the stationary images they would otherwise show you in a large binder on the walls of nearby buildings. Second, if it’s light out, you can’t do that… and when the summer sun sets early, it’s hard to find darkness! So, we mostly used the binder. But, when we used the Ripper Vision, unfortunately the guide had a tremor thing with his hand, so the image was never steady on the wall.
Bottom line: It’s not that expensive, and maybe my guide was a fluke and was nervous and not as good as the others… but all the different company tours cost the same (£10 plus tip), so why not try another?!

The good
–Ripper Vision is awesome. Helps with visualizing.
–Very Informative.
–Mick puts in perspective other Victorian events with the Ripper events.

The bad
–It can be a long 2 hours so try to use the restroom beforehand
–Unpredictable London weather… Dress warmly of going during the cold months.
The ugly
–Save your time doing research on which tour to go on. This is a no brainer… This is The One!
