We came in with good spirit as it looked Italian. A plastic smile in the entrance and we were seated. One tall waiter came up and took the order — 3 beers and 3 mains. Oh can I have some potatoes to my main please, waiter said they could arrange some vegetables to it — of course which never turned up later. All our 3 meals were not up to any good restaurant standard, chewy veal medallions and the pastas were drenched in tasteless cream sauce. Tall waiter grinning in the background and the smell of rotten eggs were in the air. Do I need to say more, unspecified bill came up to 50 pounds and if I ever were to return here it would be for throwing a bag of flaming dog poo through the door!

Il Sicialano is a traditional looking place. Perhaps a little dated and cheesy in the décor. There’s fresco ceilings and slightly rustic chairs. the soundtrack was 80s all the way, which I quite enjoyed. We agreed that it was like being on holiday in a dubious mediterrenean location. The service is classically Italian — over the top, but warm. We both had crespolini pancakes with ricotta and spinach. It was hearty fayre. 2 vegetarian mains and 2 prosecco’s cam to abt £43 which seemed excessive to me. They have a £1.50 cover charge, which I don;t think is mentioned on the menu outside, so I felt a bit scammed.
