Highbury & Islington Station

Super friendly and helpful staff! A few times I’ve been over charged for not tapping out properly and the staff have helped me to get a refund. On a separate occasion, I somehow manage to lose my oyster in the station and one of the staff kindly helped me look — to no avail, but nice all the same.
In rush hour, obviously it’s crazy, with people everywhere, but he’ll if you will have the Victoria line, one of the quickest lines around, the overground and great northern rail, what can you expect!
Coming out of the station these days is annoying with all works outside, but hey ho and on a match day, when Arsenal are playing. I gotta say it avoid at all costs! Total chaos.

A split entrance divides your entrance and exit so if you can’t get in go left to the other entrance !
The tube is a fair way from the oyster touch pad ! But gets you down to central London quickly !
Staff are very friendly — there is a coffee shop on the overground platform !

I’ve been going to Highbury & Islington for the last 7 years.
There are SO many connections.
The Victoria line is the quickest across London.
The Overground will take you all the way out to East London. and then tucked over to South London. while also providing the best connection to the DLR
The Train is great to get into City within minutes.
And of course by being one stop from Kings Cross also means you’re only 3 stops from Paris!
The station is also rather modern and spread out… and at times, you can even be luck enough to get some phone signal standing on the Tube platform.
it’s also great that they have a massive separate Way Out and Way In passages.

This is a good station (as is Angel station) to access Upper Street in Islington. Upper street is where there are tons of local bistros, bars, etc.
This is a good station to gain access to the city via the Victoria Line. Very convenient.

Highbury and Islington has gradually moved from a run of the mill tube station to a major transport interchange hub.
Victoria Line: The BEST and fastest tube line with trains at 1 min intervals at peak times and a 10 minute journey time to Oxford Circus.
Overground 1: Now transformed into a major transport artery arching around the ‘burbs of N. London from West to East and the new Stratford mini city and packed with commuters.
Overground 2: The East London line which now terminates at H&I.
Easy access to hipster central of Hoxton, Shoreditch and Brick Lane and onwards to the South of the river.
First Capital Connect, National Rail ‘Great Northern’ Route that goes south to Moorgate and north to the outer ‘burbs (weekdays only).
They’ve expanded the ticket hall for the Olympics now with separate entrance and exit gate areas and lifts to the overground platforms (but not to the deep tube platforms).
Staff are friendly and helpful too.
The only downside is immediately outside the station. Such a major interchange deserves better than an ugly passageway formed out of the space between the station and the backside of the horrible 1960’s post office building on Highbury corner. Hopefully that will be the next phase of improvement.

Oh the joy of Highbury & Islington station, a gateway to London’s many pleasures. Take the Victoria line to go North and South or the Overground East or West, you can pretty much get to anywhere in London from this zone 2 station.
In addition, from Monday to Friday, a National Rail service runs through here from Moorgate out to Hereford and Welwyn Garden City and back again. The National Rail platform is immediately adjacent to the equivalent Victoria line platform which makes for easy connections.
There is step free access to the Overground platforms but not to either the Victoria or National Rail platforms so not perfect from that point of view.

I love it, it’s updated which means more space, more efficient trains and more reliable especially the new overground that goes to Croydon.

Better since they improved the station with the overground but still a way to go yet. Its a convenient station for football goers and for the nearby garage venue and not too far off from Upper street but feels unsafe at night. That said always plenty of police on hand for tjhe busier nights.

Servicing the Victoria Line as well as the Overground, Highbury & Islington station is between King’s Cross and Finsbury Park stations in Travelcard Zone 2. There is step free access from the Overground platforms though not to the Victoria.
It seems useful enough with ticket barricades and Oyster readers though I can’t really say that I’m a fan. It does what it says on the tin. No more. No less.

Highbury and Islington station serves both the Victoria Line and the London Overground (Stratford to Richmond branch). It is an outside station, with no amenities — no coffee or shops on the station itself. There are, however, croissant and coffee wagons outside, and shops in the area.
There are ticket machines, and a bloke behind a window as well. You can get both oyster and standard tickets.
This is a distinctly unexciting station, and there is no real reason to visit unless you are using either the Victoria Line or the Overground.
