So if you are looking for a proper pub in Canary Wharf this is probably the best you are going to find I think. It is next to Café Rouge and looking out is straight out on to the dock, and you could probably just make out the Thames. If you are in the Canary Wharf area you’ll probably be looking at all the amazing buildings. The pub serves food which seems to be pretty standard but nice enough. They serve real ales as it is a Nicholson Pub, so if you are into that, you will have at least a few to choose from. It is such as small walk from the Underground and DLR so if you do have a fair few after work, it won’t be that hard to get home.

I recently traveled to London on business and was staying at the Hilton in Canary Wharf. My husband told me not to come home without trying the house bitters at a London pub so I walked over to Henry Addington at the suggestion of the Concierge at the Hilton. Thanks to fellow Unilocalers, I knew that I had to order at the bar(score one for the rookie). The bartender was super friendly and hooked me up with a pint of the house bitters. I ordered what they called the«giant» couscous salad with chicken. Being an American, I can say the salad wasn’t «giant» but it was a nice sized salad for lunch. The bitters were very tasty and refreshing. The salad was really good. The chicken was very flavorful and moist and the fresh greens and veggies were dressed in a pleasant dressing with flavorful couscous. The bartender came over and checked in on me to make sure everything was okay. I’m not an expert in British pubs but I did find the food and beer to be of good quality and a good value with super friendly service. I’d definitely go back if I was in Canary Wharf.

We went for a drink before dinner and as I’d run the marathon the day before I didn’t want to walk far so we tried this pub even we stumbled upon it(quite literally for me!). It’s a fairly standard modern pub with an old feel to it. The prices are decent for Canary Wharf, the food looked good(we didn’t eat there) and the music was at the right level to add to the atmosphere without being intrusive. The house white wine was very good and my boyfriend was impressed with the beers on tap. I imagine it’s really busy in the summer as it has a great outdoor space by the water.

Regular, modern pub with nice views by the dock. On weekends, you get 2 full english breakfasts for £10, which is pretty damn amazing. Quality ingredients and friendly service.

Come here for the lunch special — 8GBP for an entrée and a pint. Can’t beat that deal. The sausages and mash is good enough. Nothing to write home about, but at least it has more flavor than regular pies and mash.

Not an ale house despite their claims to the contrary. Unfortunately this is actually one of the better ‘pubs’ in Canary Wharf, however that’s more of a comment on the sorry state of affairs in the Wharf than a recommendation. Take a look at Henry Addington’s website and you’ll note they attempt to sell themselves as «a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food» boasting«We handpick our regular guest ales from the four corners of Britain, so you can enjoy an unrivalled range right here in Canary». Now, the food is alright, it’s nothing earthshattering or imaginative but its acceptable pub grub and indeed, originally I was impressed by the number of cask ales they had on tap,…until I tasted them. They usually have around 8 ales on tap, with only Nicholson’s Pale Ale and London Pride on permanently. However, that hardly matters as they all taste like fairly liquid! Now, I’m no expert on ‘cleaning the lines’ but i get the impression they don’t flush them out properly. I’ve never been to a pub where I’ve had to return so many undrinkable pints of beer. Added to this many of the staff appear to have no idea what a pint of ale should taste like and therefore are very unsympathetic to my plight. Take my advise, stick to Guinness here or better still go to another pub.

I’m going to start this review this way — as an American on business in London(again, obvi — read my Cat and Canary review), Henry Addington seemed to be the TGIF’s of London(which makes Cat and Canary Applebee’s? Chili’s? Steak and Ale? remember that one? or, Houlihan’s…oh the irony). Anyway, I digress. Why does HA remind me of TGIF’s? They have beer. On tap. In bottles. Mainly draught. They have mixed drinks. all served in Collins glasses. And weakly, I might add. Service is challenging to flag down, but the busboys(is that what they’re called across the pond) are everywhere. They scurry around in great numbers, clearing every empty dish and glass with a vengeance. The beer is good. And, that’s all I can say about that. The food. Oy. Vey. Fried. Very fried. Fried to hell. For our small group we had a few platters of fried delights. Wow. Battered. Fried. I think everything is fried in the same fryer, so everything tasted exactly the same. Kind of like fried fish with a fried potato finish. Fried. And, like Matt J says, it was packed. I mean should to shoulder, pecker to arse packed. And, this was on a Wednesday! 20 minutes waiting on line at the bar to order a beer or drink. Then another 30 minutes standing around WITH my beer waiting for a spot to open up. Luckily my London office mates were like hawks and spotted an open table. I’m just glad the service wasn’t wearing flair.

A typical modern 21st century pub surrounded by the beautiful views of high rise buildings and London Docklands. The pub had had a whole range of beers but they were well overpriced, the food menu looked very good but again the food is well overpriced, although I’d much rather pay the extra for quality rather than quantity. The staff were well groomed, provided a quality service and gave a very good account of themselves. The pub was very clean, which I liked!

(This pub is located in Canary Wharf on the quayside around the back of the South Colonnade — not where the map claims. Caveat Unilocaler.) There are numerous, very good reasons why the Henry Addington is known as «the worst pub in Canary Wharf». The service is fairly appalling, it is usually full of Wharfers after work of a weekday, and as a result, fairly packed(despite the lack of quality beer). The Cat and Canary or Corney and Barrow are far better options nearby!

Other than cheapycheapy cheapo Wetherspoons this is one of the more reasonable pubs on the Canary Wharf site. Does a nice range of real ale(although I have had the odd bad pint — probably because they don’t draw off the lines in the morning). and good range of sausages. Good long bar and usually well staffed. Nice outdoor seating by the water. Gets very busy Food is done by technicians rather than chefs but reasonably priced and filling.

A sausage and mash pub! Not much bad to say about this place apart form do NOT gothere at weekends. They have quite possibly one of the rudest members of bar staff you’ll ever come across who will make you feel like you are insulting her with your prescence for just ordering food! On the plus side, the bar is great. Good range of pub grub on the menu, prices aren’t too shabby, and a good range of drinks so you can enjoy yourself there!
