Grenson Shoes

Found a great pair of boots. Asked if they had a thicker sock I could try it out with. «Only for sale», the salesperson said. Bought neither.

Great shoes, terrible service for online orders.
I live in the US and ordered a pair of Grenson online. I received the shoes, which were a beautiful reddish tan, but they were a half-​size too large. So I shipped them back. After a week, I saw that they were held up at DHL pending a question that only Grenson could answer. I wrote to the good folks at Grenson with the waybill number and the phone number for DHL and asked them to call. I received a curt note back, saying, «We have not had any contact from DHL, unfortunately the responsibility for the return of the shoes is down to yourself.»
In other words, Grenson says, «We don’t care, it’s your problem.»
Eventually, I had to call DHL and beg for the package to be released. Once it did, Grenson graciously sent out the correct size. After another week passed, I received the shoes… but they were the wrong color.
I pointed out that I had originallly purchased a beautiful reddish tan pair of shoes and now received a plain brown pair. Grenson insisted the originals were brown, even though no color is listed on the original invoice. If the original pair were supposed to be brown, why did they send me tan? I asked, but didn’t bother for a response.
I’ve given up and am just seeking a refund.

Appalling reception! And certainly not doing justice to the well-​mannered and well deserved reputation of English people. I visited the shop with three Spanish friends of mine and the shop owner rudely asked us to leave, pretexting we were not his kind of customers!!! Well my friend, a top level executive in the beauty industry, her two brothers (one is a model) and myself a film director I must say are rather well in touch with the fashion world… it is part of our job!
We could not figured out what triggered this distressing behaviour, whether it the man having a bad day, my friends speaking Spanish or his fear to be copied as he mentioned he heard us talking about the details on a pair of shoe. I am not too sure what we could have copied anyway since his designs are essentially British classic ones with a little twist on some as Mr Smith would put it.
Stay clear of this one unless… you look like one if his customers and you don’t speak a language he can’t understand!

The best shoe store in the world. If you live by the maxim, I’m too poor to buy cheap shoes this is the place for you. Their stuff will last a good decade with heavy wear and good care. They have the odd sale too.

If a man is to live in London, he must don proper footwear. Ideally, a pair of well-​made British shoes that can complement a suit superbly but still look right at home with jeans or casual trousers. They won’t be cheap but given the life in them if properly cared for, they’ll be of tremendously good value.
With this thought in mind, I suggested we visit Grenson’s newly opened shop in Spitalfields. Whilst a larger space than the Liverpool Street outpost, they had a smaller selection here. For more classic options that store may be a better bet.
Still, the man minding the shop here on Hanbury Street was helpful to my shoe-​buying companion, answering his various questions and fetching different sizes. I was prepared for an exhaustive search but the bloke made his mind up on the Tom style in tan in nearly no time at all.
The good news for ladies: I got confirmation today that a number of the men’s offerings will be available in women’s sizes come fall. I’m pretty much holding my breath and trying not to burst with excitement in the meantime; at the moment there’s nothing for us here.
