This place is like The Secret Garden! Considering its opening hours are absurdly limited to weekday middays, it’s no wonder it’s been very nearly deserted on the few occasions I’ve popped by. That said, it makes for an absolutely brilliant spot to have a quiet outdoor lunch when the weather’s cooperative! I’m admittedly a bit loathe to share about this enormous green hideaway, as the peaceful factor is one of the main draws for me. That said, it’s honestly just too cool not to brag about. And its convenient location right off Holborn is ideal for mid-work lunch dates, given the number of offices and great takeaways right around there.

What I’m discovering about London, quite literally, is that if you need a place to rest or take a break for a second in the middle of the city, there are spots to stop… You just have to find them. Near Chancery Lane lies a hidden green space. We even knew about it and still weren’t sure it was open until walking through a small stone archway and into this massive green space. It’s basically only open for a few hours during the day, but you can sit and walk and enjoy the view. We had bought street food on Leather Lane and walked over here to eat it. It was pretty much perfect. Just one more of London’s little hidden treasures.

Its hidden away from most of the rush near Chancery Lane plus its massive so you don’t have to worry about trying to find a spot in a tiny city garden. It’s a great place to lay out and read a book in the middle of the afternoon. But I’ll warn you, you may have a hard time going back to work after. Use with caution!

Gray’s Inn Fields is a little more popular as far as the green spaces around the Inns of Court go, but I can’t really see why, other than owing to its street exposure. I should think this feature would be a blemish on its appeal but apparently I’m wrong. Admittedly it’s quite generous in size, and a peaceful space can be found in the end towards Holborn. I don’t head out here intentionally, though.
