A rip-off and frankly quite in a sneaky way directly by the hands of the manager. Overpriced and not very clean. Beware, the worst branch of Gail’s that I’ve tried.

For eating in, this isn’t my favourite Gails. Just rammed with babies and prams in what little space there is, plus the acoustic makes it quite noisy. That said, I love the Gails products: bread, pastry, prepared foods, coffees, etc. Their mocha is particularly tasty because it is not too milky and large nor too sweet. Their interesting jams in cute jars make nice little gifts too. Five stars for food, knocked one star for the space.

Fantastic place for a snack lunch and they they bake delicious bread to take away. I fully recommend this place to anyone taking a wonder down Northcote Road. They have seating inside and outside. The staff are really friendly and the place is child friendly.

Ah Gail’s, you made leaving Paris bearable. After a week of having the best pastries in the world for breakfast every morning, we were faced with a week of eggs, fatty bacon, baked beans and roasted tomatoes for breakfast(no offense England; I love your traditional breakfast, really). We had no idea we’d be staying by a place like Gail’s. The selection and quality both match anything we had in Paris. Gail’s feels like a Parisian patisserie without the body odor and second-hand smoke. That was a cheap shot, sorry Paris. And the drinks are great too; they had the best coffee I had in London(which isn’t saying much I know), but their coffee was about as good as the best coffees we had in Paris and Switzerland(although the Parisian baristas made the prettiest hearts on my wife’s latte). They have a great selection of savory or sweet breakfast treats, bread, sandwiches, and drinks. And a lovely outdoor seating area. Gail’s epitomizes the charm of Clapham.

Breads are great, sweets are really nice and made fresh daily. The food is good, but I think its a bit expensive for a lunch spot. I haven’t tried the breakfast yet, but it all looks really good. The jam is also really nice.

Meh — that’s how I’d sum up Gail’s. It’s true, that there are good things to be had here. It’s also true that this particular Gail’s remains ridiculously popular with the yummy-mummy set. It’s also open quite early, and quite late. But… and there are actually quite a few… — Two coffees and a muffin aren’t £9 worth of comestibles, despite what the management here think — I’ve not had a worse muffin(dry, tasteless) — The coffee isn’t that great either — I’ve had a lot better, from a range of establishments, within 200 metres of here — Service can be painfully slow So, perhaps«meh» isn’t quite fair — perhaps a better description would be «suffering from a surfeit of hubris».

LEYUM. I had the best eggs benedict here. The best. Ever. I’ll work my way up through the deliciousness. The English muffin(which, as a silly American, I loved eating in England), was perfectly toasted and hearty. The eggs were poached to perfection. The(excellent) Hollandaise sauce to muffin ratio was expertly portioned — I had just enough sauce to sop up all my eggs. To sum this probably overly graphic description of gluttony, the food is fab. Gail’s is cute inside and it’s perfect for a breakfast nook. Its food deserves five stars, but we had to wait forever(30 minutes) for food because the system lost our order. The memory of my grumbling stomach gives it four. Enjoy!

If you are an indecisive eater then I’d like to offer a word of caution upon entering Gail’s — there are just too many yummy things to choose from! We went for brunch around 12:30pm on a Sunday and it was pretty crowded. Best to get there earlier if possible(they ran out of bacon for the bacon, egg and english muffin sandwich, that we learned of after we bought it). The hot breakfast was a bit pricey and nothing to rave about but the pastries, small sandwiches, quiche and cappuccino was delish! Bundle up if you want to enjoy your coffee on the patio outside in the autumn but inside was nice and warm, albeit crowded and lively. I took off one star for a mediocre and pricey bacon egg and english muffin sandwich(with no bacon) so next time I’ll get there earlier and probably opt for a pastry or another quiche.

The bread is great! As well as the scones. The sourdoughs are a welcome sight And they have smaller versions of their larger breads. A must try is the potato and rosemary sourdough. Fantastic!

The coffee is ok. Rather a predictable places for a bourgeoisie, uneventful corner of the land of designers pushchairs The pastries can be good(if you get a fresh one!) but make sure you don’t get an old one that they’re passing off as fresh, as has happened to me on a few occasions. Rather disappointing that such a premium product can be so hit-or-miss. Rather than maintaining a consistent high standard, they sell the dregs at full price too! Poor and inexcusable.

Delicious breakfasts and the most GORGEOUS pastries and cakes. And very surprisingly, the staff here are incredibly friendly and hospitable which is SO rare in this area. The only downside and almost reason enough to push me down to three stars is the price. Holy mackerel is this place expensive! I had an English muffin with two eggs and bacon and a grilled tomato with a cappuccino and it totaled more than 11 pounds!!! Yikes! I recommend stopping in for cakes on special occasions and pastries here and there.

Loving the Nappy Valley reference :) Too many damn prams everywhere. An even worse culprit of this is Crumpet, too bad as the coffee is great there. Anyway, yes, the bread is fabulous, I had a potato and rosemary sourdough and it was gorgeous — I think I ate a whole loaf one Saturday…

In an attempt to find a decent place for coffee near Clapham Junction that stays open past 6, Gail’s came to the triumphant rescue. What an adorable place — but not so adorable that it should double as a daycare(which is how it felt at times). But I was in Nappy Valley, so I shouldn’t really complain… The tea is loose leaf, fresh fresh fresh, and comes to you in a steeping pot and a cup & saucer. The baked goods LOOKED and SMELLED amazing — I’m pretty sure my allergic self couldn’t have eaten a thing in there, which makes me very sad indeed. If you’re in the area, pop over to Gail’s and sample the sweet treats and hot drinks. It’s good stuff.
