Beautifully preserved pub with interesting wine selection. Had a small plate of aubergine purée, that was overly garlicky.
Would have enjoyed it much more if the noise level had not been so high. There was no music and we were there early on a Thursday night, so not sure why people were talking so loudly,

It’s very good if you are a rich thirty plus (see the first review here), of either sex. Nice, though fully-​priced, food upstairs and down and a good atmosphere.
NB the location is in Paul St, Shoreditch, to the south east of Old St tube, not St Paul St, Canonbury, which is what the map here shows at the time of my review.

This is an absolutely solid boozer right off the back of the city which has the extra fillip of having good pub food.
It works well in both seasons as it has a wacking great square bar right in the centre of the room which you can huddle around and can drink a warming whisky in the winter. In the summer you get to hoover outside with a cold pint enjoying the city stream past you.

Oh dear, this place doesn’t know what it wants to be. It’s the old boy’s banking club during the day (they all come in for their pints of ale while trying to figure out how to use those new fangled blackberry thingies) yet it parades itself as a gastropub. The food it overpriced and not always particularly good. Atmosphere is as you’d expect for the area: rich thirty pluses with too much money trying to shout over each other. Just walk up the road a bit to old street where there’s a much better vibe.
