The Fiddler’s Elbow is located within a short walk of Chalk Farm tube station, on the border of Camden and Kentish Town in north-​west London. The local area is particularly well known for its vibrant night life, wealth of alternative shops, famous pubs & bars, and legendary live music circuit

History

Established in 1444.

Built in circa 1845, The Fiddler’s Elbow, is a grade II listed building formally known as The Old Mother Shipton.

It stands on a prominent corner site which turns very effectively by the use of a drum forming the upper floors.

Despite some internal alteration it remains a good example of an early Victorian public house

I played an acoustic set at the fiddlers elbow a few months ago. The people are supremely friendly and nice. The sound is excellent and the audiences were highly supportive. I am very much looking forward the playing here with my band on the coming months.

Everywhere in Camden is decent when it comes to music but this one just might be cut above the rest I’m not certain why i like it so much here it just has a nice vibe. Maybe it’s just because it attracts less tourists than The Lock Tavern and The Hawley Arms.

I went here to see a gig of some buddies and even though, when looking online, the venue seems to be far from Chalk Farm tube, in reality it’s only about 3 minutes. The venue is pretty small (it’s a pub after all) and the layout is a bit random as it is more lengthy and a bit narrow with a pool table all the way on the back. Also, the bar is right across from the stage and in between (maybe 10 meters) for people to stand. Overall, I think it’s a nice venues for bands to be playing, but I found the entry of £5 for (unknown) bands to be a bit steep.

OAP’s sitting drinking beer at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. Younger folk look at my partner and I. I know what there thinking. «Are they local?» Strange man sitting in the back with no shirt on, sitting next a man staring blankly at his newspaper. If I was ever in bar about to get raided by zombies, this was it. The two female bartenders were so disinterested they may as well have been filing their nails.
This music venue has the capabilities of throwing great live music and later in the week, they do on their good sized stage with projector and cleared area for dancing, sorry… moshing. There is a pool table out back and typical booze options including draught. Would I come here for anything other than the music? Probably not. Got to be honest, the locals scare me somewhat.

The place in itself wasn’t all that special, but two of my friends and I saw some great live music here by a band called Half Wolf Half Crow featuring a guitarist and a bass clarinet player (the fact that they had a bass clarinetist had me very excited because I played in concert and symphonic band for all 4 years of high school and bass clarinets were a BIG deal!) The stage is well-​lit and well-​sized, and it seems like a great place for small acoustic acts like the one I saw there. We even got free compilation CDs from the Bed Springs Acoustic Music Promotion group who organizes acoustic showcases in various pubs and venues around London like the one I attended at the Fiddler’s Elbow. Not sure if Bed Springs still hosts showcases here, but the guys hosting the event were awesomely nice, as were the guys from the band. And the best part? They said, «Next time you come to London, we’ll give you a gig.»
