Embankment Tube Station

Embankment is a London Underground station in the City of Westminster, known by various names during its history. It is served by the Circle, District, Northern and Bakerloo lines. On the Northern and Bakerloo lines, the station is between Waterloo and Charing Cross stations; on the Circle and District lines, it is between Westminster and Temple and is in Travelcard Zone 1. The station has two entrances, one on Victoria Embankment and the other on Villiers Street. The station is adjacent to Victoria Embankment Gardens and is close to Charing Cross station, Embankment Pier, Hungerford Bridge, Cleopatra’s Needle, the Royal Air Force Memorial, the Savoy Chapel and Savoy Hotel and the Playhouse and New Players Theatres.
The station is in two parts: sub-​surface platforms opened in 1870 by the District Railway (DR) as part of the company’s extension of the Inner Circle eastwards from Westminster to Blackfriars and deep-​level platforms opened in 1906 by the Baker Street and Waterloo Railway (BS&WR) and 1914 by the Charing Cross, Euston and Hampstead Railway (CCE&HR). A variety of underground and mainline services have operated over the sub-​surface tracks and the CCE&HR part of the station was reconstructed in the 1920s.

Love that its right next to gordons and lupita but man, at rush hour they will shut the place down to let people out and if you’re on the wrong side its most annoying.
But hey, its public transport.

I get to love the Embankment Rube Station since I don’t live in London and don’t have to use it everyday. It’s filled with English people so what can be wrong with it?

Really small tube station but there is a really nice cosy café outside!

Rabbit’s warren. Labyrinth. Puzzle inside a riddle wrapped in an enigma. How about… confusing mess? It’s a very old station that has been upgraded and downgraded throughout the years. Be patient, try and read the signs, and pray.
Embankment services four tube lines with subsurface platforms and deep line platforms. The Northern and Bakerloo (between Charing Cross and Waterloo), Circle and District (between Temple and Westminster) lines all converge here.
It is in Travelcard Zone 1 and has the usual ticket barricades and Oyster readers.

Embankment tube station is the Labyrinth of London’s underground. There are bigger stations, but none are quite as convoluted as Embankment. I’ve been using it regularly for nearly 3 years now, and I still need to read the signs.
Of course, the question that comes to mind then is: what signs?. There are too many of them, mostly redundant, with arrows going in both directions, and generally confusing information on them. I have seen hundreds of tourists (and occasionally londoners) be puzzled by them.
There is also a long tube-​like corridor which has some nice illustrations of the older tube. It’s nice, but an annoyance to walk through if you’re in a hurry.

My favourite thing to do from here is to walk up Embankment bridge on either side and look at the Thames and buildings on the skyscape.
It’s also right across the river from the Royal Festival Hall, and, in the opposite direction, within walking distance (10min) from The Strand, Trafalgar square and Covent Garden.
