Fifth generation baker Christopher Freeman is passionate about quality and that starts with finding the best possible ingredients. Traditional family recipes, the finest ingredients, and delicious cakes are what makes us North London’s finest craft bakery.

Our selected array of tempting delicacies are made with only the finest and freshest ingredients sourced from local suppliers and produced to Dunn’s own traditional recipes. Long before local sourcing of ingredients became trendy Christopher used local suppliers as much as possible. We get our delicious smoked salmon from Purkis fish shop in Crouch End, all our fresh meat for our savouries from Morleys Butchers and fruit, vegetables and salad from Broadway Fruiterers. Crouchenders will know what a special place Crouch End is. Independent food shops support each other not just because it supports the Crouch End economy but because the quality of the food available!

Nearly all our flour comes from Wrights Flour Mills in Ponders End. They, like us, have survived over the generations and take a real pride in supplying reliable and excellent ingredients.

There is no finer place to order your birthday cake than Dunn’s Bakery. We know how important birthdays are and that the special person in your life deserves the best birthday cake made from the best quality ingredients.

Established in 1840.

Dunn’s Bakery began almost 200 years ago. Since then we have always prided ourselves on crafting high quality food for people to enjoy.

A lot has changed since then, however the main principles remain the same, using high quality ingredients, traditional methods and ensuring the highest standards amongst our staff.

Hi my name is Christopher and I run Dunn’s here in Crouch End. I’m a fifth generation baker and have been baking all my life. I love working here at Dunn’s and with a great team of bakers and shop staff we aim to deliver great products with a smile.

This bakery is the best in London nevermind North London. The rolls and bakery is of the highest quality. You can see why it has been around for generations.
Been coming for many years to Dunns and the sausage rolls never disappoint. Just so good and freshly made on premise. Been around since 1820. With age comes craft. Just add mustard and always support local.

Great traditional bakery with wide selection pasties and sweet things, including cronuts which you can’t find in many other places. Only disappointing thing is that you can only get cronuts on a Saturday. Some of the staff are friendly, some seem a bit grumpy — it’s luck of the draw really but the prices are very reasonable.

I’ve bought a selection of things from Dunn’s and the quality has been mixed. While I’ve really enjoyed some of the cakes or pastries others have left a bad taste in my mouth and generally been disappointing. The service was reasonable though, especially considering how busy they often seem to be.

Loved this place. There cakes are amazing. Such a wide range. Such a busy place to be in. I only got served quickly when I delivered their fresh fruit (in person). Customer services were awesome. Oh yeah… The Cakes…5*…Bread…5*. Used this bakery frequently (almost everyday while growing up in Crouch End.) Still drop by when I can. High recommend.

This is a traditional «village» bakery in the heart of Crouch End. While you won’t find any health-​conscious breads here, such as rye or stone-​heavy whole-​wheat breads, you will find an amazing variety of what white bread can be transformed into: from typical sandwich loaves, Portuguese custards and elaborately decorated cakes — you will find it here! (I actually come here when I need some standard white bread for making French toast — it really wouldn’t be fun to use dense rye bread for such a treat.)
The staff is always very cheerful and they all wear straw hats — I love that little detail.

A wonderful little bakery that always seems to be busy, which is a good sign.
Their bread is perfectly soft with a crisp outer crust, my husband loves their hot cross buns, and their cupcakes will always have a special place in my heart. Some of their cakes are a little pricey but for every day items this is a regular stop for my pantry.

I don’t get the universal love for Dunn’s. Its a nice friendly place but the baked goods are poor quality. Too much sugar and salt, too many sweeteners and colourings.
Kid’s would love it, but it’s not for my adult tastes.

The best traditional English bakery I know of. Go to La Sable D’Or, down the road, if you want croissants or baguettes (Dunns do sell them but they taste distinctly ‘French with an English twist’, i.e. not very fine). But if you want lovely traditional English bread go to Dunns. They use local grain, a local miller and the bake on the premesis. The Pumkin Seed Bread and the Dunnary are particularly fab. Do I have to suggest you use on the day of purchase? No, that’s pretty obvious isn’t it. Although plenty of people buy Mothers Pride from supermarkets and keep it for a week. Yuk! On Saturdays I have counted 14 sales staff working at Dunns. Not bad for a local bakery! The competition in Crouch End is potentially stiff so here’s my pecking order. Top is Dunns. Winner of ‘Best Foreign Entry’ is the aformentioned Sable D’Or. Coffee Cup looks nice but, sadly it’s not very fine at all. Honeycomb is pretty good for pastries but not for bread. Waitrose is muscling in on the act but let’s try and keep things local… Greggs is, well, Greggs. There’s a new one near to Dunns — Belgique Brasserie or something. Seems oddly named. Anyway, take my advice and stick to Dunns!

Dunn’s Bakers you are feeding me so nicely during my week spent in Crouch End. I want to eat all of your cakes, all in the name of sampling your wares, but I must resist for it is not a good idea to eat so many joyful cakes that you get so fat you can’t fit through your own front door.
Sandwiches are good too. Bit pricy, not stupid money, just a bit more than you would like. But the serious wedges of bread and filling you are now the proud owner of make up for the cost.

During a mini adventure checking what Crouch End had to offer in terms of entertainment and shopping, I came across Dunn’s Bakery. Now I love me a bit of baked dough and after peering through the window at the exceptionally clean and well presented establishment, I ventured inside.
I could tell immediately that Dunn’s was serious and passionate about their trade. They have been there for over 150yrs, and through the generations of I assume ‘Dunn’s’, they are still going strong. From hot pies to fresh loaves, sandwiches to cakes of all description, they had everything one could want. If you want a cake for a celebration they can certainly do that too.
Then I saw it. Wait a minute… 75p for a doughnut! £1.65 for a chocolate éclair. I felt a slight tumescence in my pocket as the horror spread from my face to my wallet. My cheese & pickle sandwich topped out at £2.20 which is a little pricey, but not extreme. But what the hell was going on with these cake prices?
As said by the legendary Vincent Vega «I gotta know what a $ 5 dollar shake tastes like!» I had to know what a 75p doughnut tasted like. So I bought the thing and the sandwich. Now don’t get me wrong, I wouldn’t be making such a fuss if the doughnut was as big as my face, but it wasn’t, it was a basic small jam doughnut. So the moment of truth — the taste test.
First the sandwich:
As I bit down the essence of mature cheddar ran amok through my taste buds, then came the delicate tang of sweet, Branston pickle. I had to tug ever so slightly to break through the crust of bread. I like that tension of fight, food sometimes gives you. I was happy. £2.20, well spent
Now the doughnut:
My teeth easily sank deep into the doughy flesh. jam seeped sneakily into the paper bag trying to escape its inevitable doom. I did not taste decadence in my doughnut… I tasted Greggs! I was bitterly disappointed.
This is without question a 5* bakery, but I in good conscious cannot bestow this honour due to the heavily inflated individually pre-​baked cake prices.

Bread made by a 5th generation baker, baking is in his blood. This is a bakery even the French could be proud of. They offer many different kinds of bread (who knew there were so many) made fresh daily and then used in the sandwiches that very day. There is nothing better than fresh made bread. Their wedding cakes run about £350 which isn’t bad from my research, but their basic celebration cakes are a little expensive with the really cool Guinness cake costing £115, but the basic cakes start at around £30. They also have a catering service which is reasonably priced and has a good selection of food… even for vegetarians.

Dunns is the place for bread. The kind staff will slice your loafs anyway you like. You won’t find anything like cranberry walnut bread here but in the old English tradition you will find good bread.
Towards the end of the day, this shop sells bread in baskets at reduced rates like 50% off.
I can tell this place is has been here for ages. Dunns supplies the gourmet Budgens around the corner with bakery bread as well.
One loaf of wholemeal here is about a pound.

This is my favourite bakery in London and my first port of call when in Crouch End. As others have said, it’s an old-​fashioned family bakery which produces a lovely — and extensive — selection of cakes, pastries and bread, much of which is difficult to find elsewhere. While some of it — particularly the large cakes — can seem quite pricey, the delicious sunflower seed bread and soda bread are little treats and well worth the price. The staff are always friendly and the premises are spacious enough to allow you to have a wander and make your choice without feeling under pressure from the staff.
It’s worth saying that several of their breads and cakes are sold in Budgens across the road, so if you cannot get to Dunns during their opening hours of 6 – 6, their delights are on offer until 10pm at the supermarket.

This old style bakery is great for occasions and just for a bite to eat. The staff are very friendly and are always willing to have a good conversation with you. They have a great display of their work in their front windows which are amazing and make you want to but them. Somethings in there are a little pricey but are worth it. All of their food is fresh and delicious!

This is a lovely, friendly bakery with pastries that could make your heart melt. The cakes they sell are also very good. Dunns can be a little pricey but is very good. It is big but at the same time small when overcrowded. All the workers are friendly and are always willing to help. No one is rude in there which great. I love popping in there once in a while for an odd donut, and i have never been dissapointed.

This is an exciting bakery, smelling lovely as all good bakeries should, full of cakes, a window display of precariously tall wedding cakes and special occasion cakes, and shelves full of every sort of freshly baked bread. They do rye breads, soda breads, ciabattas, baguettes, wholemeal loaves, rolls and buns and croissants and pastries and sandwiches
it is a family-​run business dating from the early 1800s, and they do catering too. It is so rare these days to find a good old-​fashioned bakery that I sometimes go just to stick my nose to the window and breathe in the scent of sticky, warm dough.

Old-​fashioned craft bakers in the centre of Crouch End. Dunn’s has a great window display where they show off some of the wedding and birthday cakes that can be made to order (there’s a full range on the website). They also do lovely cakes of all sizes for less special occasions.
There’s a good selection of breads and plenty of hot pasties and sandwiches to take away for lunch. Have a look on the large stand in the centre for the half price cakes with an orange sticker –most still have a week or two left on the sell by date and are just as delicious!
