Dum Dum Donutterie

Saw Dum Dum Donuts on Instagram and had to try. Cute little shop part of box park at Shoreditch station. Lady that serviced we was very friendly and knew the product well.
There was is a lot of choice flavour wise. I choose the Zebra which was chocolate filled. It was yum and because it is baked not deep fried wasn’t left with feeling greasy as with most other donut.
Highly recommend with a coffee.

I’m not sure how this place is reviewed so favorably other than the possibility this doughnut shop is just better than a bunch of worse doughnut shops.
I arrived 20 minutes after open to find none of the doughnuts on display and the lad who works there still setting up — probably a late start.
He let me know he’d only take a bit to setup so I gave him some time to do just that.
All the while it became obvious to me that these doughnuts he’d be setting up were from yesterday or possibly even Friday. I at that point thought about walking out but figured I’d give them a shot anyway.
I ordered the pistachio cronut and the Apple Pie doughnut both of which seem as though they would’ve been 10x better if they were actually baked fresh.
Not sure why a small shop like this one which would seem to thrive off of an artisanal vibe would be serving doughnuts from a prior day, but it’s a shame.
Not worth the trip. If this is the gold standard of doughnuts for London, I feel bad for Londoners.
Go have a proper doughnut elsewhere.

You must have the zebra donut. It was absolutely incredible! The only thing that would make it better would be if it were warmed up. I can’t wait to go back and try other donut flavors!

We walked by Dum Dum on a Sunday afternoon stroll and were immediately drawn in by the gorgeous display case (and by the promise that there were ‘healthier’ doughnuts!). The staff was extremely pleasant and walked us through each of the doughnuts, noting the most popular as well as their personal favorites. Two of us opted to split the Zebra (the best seller), which is layers of chocolate and vanilla croissant dough filled with chocolate ganache and covered in chocolate– basically a chocolate dream. It was light and airy and delicious, and my only wish was that I could have tried it straight out of the oven! I will be back as soon as possible to try the crème brûlée and strawberries and cream.

Came here on a Monday morning around 10 am. There was no line and the girl working was very friendly. They serve Nude coffee and a donut for £3.50 so it seemed like it was a good deal. I got the crème brûlée donut which looked delicious but it was a big disappointment. It was hard bread like it had been sitting there since Friday morning. I picked at the softer bits and threw out the rest. Too bad, it’s probably delicious when fresh.
Good service, good coffee, but the donut is what they’re supposed to be good at and that was bad.

I came to dum dum donutterie this afternoon to pick up a tasty treat for myself and my boyfriend. The doughnuts looked quite fancy, and though I was tempted by the dulce de leche topped banoffee, after much deliberation I opted for the Tarte tatin crodough. For my boyfriend I got the pistachio almond variety.
Both were very pretty and came to £6. I got them put in a nice box so as not to mess up the icing and spoil their aesthetic value.
Upon eating them back home, both were tasty, the pastry of my crodough was a little on the «old» side as I guess it was getting close to the end of the day and it had been on display all day… My partner’s was divine, though perhaps a little heavy on the sugar. The almond custard filling was really moreish.
The price is a little steep for even a gourmet doughnut, but I will probably be back at some point to try out that banoffee flavour.

Highly recommend Almond and pistachio Cronut — gorgeous and not with that awful fatty after taste.
Good coffee as well. Really glad we stopped :)

I had the ‘Zebra’ donut, which has layers of chocolate cream inside. It was nice but too heavy for a donut. Maybe I’ll try a different one soon. The coffee was average.

I must be the only person who actively sought this place out, only to be hideously disappointed!
The only way I can describe these donuts are tough, hard bread rolls with a glaze.
Absolutely no idea what everyone else is talking about.
St. John’s donuts are the donuts you are looking for, not these.

Right, just what we needed. Another awesome bakery in Shoreditch so that we can feel guilty all the time. And this one’s hard to stay away from. Dum Dum has an amazing collection of traditional donuts as well as cronuts (croissant donuts). My favorites, so far, are the nutella cronut, banoffee, & yum yum (these are cream-​filled, deliciously light, not too sweet, and will leave you wanting more).
I give four stars because
* The service isn’t as fast as it could be. While people are looking around you can take orders from others in the queue. I’ve had to wait for a good 5 minutes sometimes to get my orders.
* They need contactless payments to speeden up the process.
* They sometimes run out of stuff by 3 pm!

Baked not fried! These guys are geniuses and you have to get there early before they sell out! I ordered a box for Xmas and I was thoroughly impressed as were my guests. Definitely will be going back. Love their vanilla classic flavour.

«The Best Doughnuts in the World?» — No definitely not. They look way more delicious than they really are.
I was so excited to try these out after reading all the great reviews & especially as I had yet to ever try a Cronut before. All I can say is I was really quite disappointed. In the store they look phenomenal, colourful and appetising. I ordered a crème brûlée doughnut and a strawberry and cream Cronut. The doughnut was dense and didn’t taste fresh at all the cream inside had a stodgy consistency and the hard caramelised sugar on top just added to the overall stale taste of the doughnut. Similarly the Cronut was quite hard and thick — not light and airy how you would expect, the cream and jam tasted really artificial too — nothing fresh about these dough/​cro-​nuts whatsoever. They simply taste like a fancy version of what you might get at Gregs. I think the dough of Krispy Kremes is a hell of a lot better than this stuff, so I think that says plenty. I won’t be buying these doughnuts again any time soon.

Best donuts i’ve had in London in the 4 years of living here. Light, airy, flavorful, and delicious.
The staff were so super helpful in helping me choose which of the big and mighty donuts would be best suited to my taste and in the end i got a few of the plain ones and they were just great. really light and with a butter cream filling that didn’t over power, it was just right.
In other words, its stupid good.

I still dream of Dum Dum Donutterie and deeply regret that I didn’t visit them at their Boxpark location in Shoreditch more! I prefer this over Krispy Kreme (an iconic American donut chain that actually makes great donuts). I still fantasize about DDD’s ‘Zebra’ cronut. I also had a few other donuts ranging from jam filled to pistachio covered which were delicious but not as great as the ‘Zebra’. The location is tiny since it is part of Boxpark but you’re just getting donuts anyways. The staff are very friendly and took the time to go over their selection. Felt a little bad that I was holding up the line but the other people were actually interested in hearing what the guy behind the counter had to say so it was a win-​win. Can’t wait to stop by and grab some more drool worthy donuts.

Never has anything epitomised ‘a slice of heaven’ more than the cronut I had from dum dum! Having been recommended to try the dum dum cronuts by a friend I willingly went down to Shoreditch (which can be annoyingly difficult to get to if you don’t live on the Overground line). Upon arriving I came to realise that I have actually passed the dum dum shop twice in my lifetime and on reflection cannot believe how much of an oversight it was not to go in and buy up all their stock! There I found the most stupendous display of doughnuts and cronuts to feast my eyes upon. Like any good freshly-​made food provider, the varieties available can change each day. My friend’s favourite cronut is the pistachio cronut which wasn’t an option on the day I visited; there were however Ferrero Rocher cronuts, strawberry and cream, apple tartin and Zebra (i.e. chocolate layered) cronuts; all looking gloriously spectacular! I bought the strawberry and cream cronut to take away and ate it later upon which I discovered the taste of heaven in its every bite!
Bringing the ‘best of both worlds’ together from the light, airy texture of a croissant to the soft delicate nature of a good doughnut, the cronut I experienced from dum dum (and yes it was an ‘experience’), was divine. The strawberry on top was fresh, the cream surrounding it was light and airy — the kind you could happily scoop up to eat on its own, and the jam in the middle of the cronut, which was oozing out of the bottom, tasted like good homemade strawberry jam without concentrate. In short, there are not enough superlatives to describe the cronut I had from here; one thing’s for sure, it was definitely made of the stuff dreams are made of as I have been dreaming about it ever since! My only criticism about dum dum is that its name in no way reflects the wonders it holds inside.

I was working with my team in Boxpark and we happened to be on the ground floor. And then, there was this doughtnut shop that had a Homer Simpson quote on their chalkboard out front. So of course, we had to go in.
It’s tiny, just one small box in the Boxpark. But it was what was inside that counted…
So inside? My friends, inside, was the best collection of amazing doughnuts I have maybe ever seen. No plain of sprinkles here. They had crème brûlée, white chocolate with pistachios, peanut butter and jelly, oh dear god in heaven.
There are two types — delicious normal kinds and delicious half croissant/​half doughnut kinds. All baked, not fried, all amazing. Seriously amazing.
Run here. Run here now. Eat all the things. Be happy.

Had the opportunity to go here a couple of weeks ago on an early Sunday morning, picked up donuts here and bagels from Brick Lane as breakfast for a few friends of mine.
The place was quiet and I had the chance to talk to the guy behind the counter about them and he ran me through how they were made, baked with a little oil instead of fried. He also pointed out the cronuts and what the different flavours were. I ended up buying one of the assorted boxes and heading on to breakfast.
The place is small with nowhere really to sit, but then again, you wouldn’t really have a place to sit at any other donut stand here. It’s also in Box Park, so they’re short on space already. Being able to talk to the guy (I think he was the main guy behind it) and discuss the benefits to their method over others really meant I got a good idea of where they were coming from.
The donuts themselves are good, although the texture seems a little more bready than normal (probably from the baking) the flavours however are great, the fillings not too sweet and going well with the actual flavour of the donut itself. The only thing for me though is the cronut. As someone who has queued up and managed to get his hands on a Dominique Ansell original, these are not quite a pale imitation, but it is an imitation. But I will say that if I hadn’t tried a real cronut, I wouldn’t have noticed. Sure it doesn’t match up to the best there is but it’s a damn fine creation.

Oh, sweet sugar, Dum Dum is incredible.
As many other reviewers have already said, its motto is ‘baked not fried’. I read this as ‘Healthy, so have two’ and two I did.
I went for their forest fruit doughnut and the bigger Zebra, which was alternating layers of chocolate and vanilla croissant pastry with a chocolate filling and chocolate topping, with chocolate flakes.
Yes, that is a lot of chocolate and yes, it was as amazing as it sounds. It’s rich without being too much, solid without being heavy and even enough for two people (I had to share it with Matt R… he was giving me evils as I tried to take one big bite out of it so out came the knife… sigh). LOVE.
The forest fruits one wasn’t as good in comparison and was the reason this place lost a star from me unfortunately. I was told it had a berry taste and sure, I got that it had a fruit flavour when I bit into it… but that seemed to be solely due to the icing as the rest of it was a slightly hard ring doughnut. Sad. But we did buy them at the end of the day so I’m sure a lot of it had to do with the fact it was hours since it was baked.
At £2 for a normal doughnut and £3 for a HUGE deluxe one, the prices are good and you definitely get a lot of bang for your buck if you opt for the larger one.
They have a range of flavours, from pistachio to crème brûlée to chocolate crème to giant cream and vanilla ones with a white chocolate dipped strawberry, you’ll be spoilt for choice. They also develop new recipes quite frequently, if the peanut butter and jelly ‘special’ doughnut was anything to go by — here for one week only before it’s replaced with something equally delicious!
If you’re passing and you’re hungry for guilt-​free (in my mind, don’t burst my bubble, ‘K?) sugar, pop in. You won’t be dissappointed.

There is something about «baked not fried» donuts that makes it feel so guilt-​free. The croissant donuts are especially good — it’s a perfect cross between the two and every mouthful is sweet, soft and flakey. The donuts are so fresh they leave no weird aftertaste either. Good luck choosing which one to have.

Baked not fried, probably the best motto I’ve heard my whole life. After trying a doughnut from Dum Dum Donutterie I don’t think I will like a fried doughnut ever again.
The dough is very fluffy and granted a bit denser but still incredibly soft.
I didn’t feel heavy after eating it, it’s a very light snack perfect for satisfying a sweet craving without making you feel like you need to hit the gym immediately. Obviously there is still sugar and not completely healthy however since they are baked and this places claim to be able to control the amount of oil they are more healthy than eating a fried doughnut.
Can’t make it all the way to Boxpark for these amazing treats? Not to worry, they are now open in Harrods food hall with some special flavours you can only get there. I’m hoping this is the first step in their expansion and soon they’ll be available everywhere!
