DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel London – West End

Worst treatment I have ever received. Make sure you have it written and that you sign off on your rate as they took advantage of me and my friends by verbally quoting £119 and closing us out at £179 when Hilton honors site had it listed at £145. There is no consistency with this hotel. I’ve been a loyal Hilton patron for 16 years Dimond for 6 and gold for 9. If you have a choice for the area don’t stay here as there are so many better hotels around that are more local and have more character.

Excellent hotel to stay in the west end district of London. 5 minutes from the British Museum and 15 minutes from the West end Theatre District. Holborn is convenient 5 minutes walk and 53 minutes directly from heathrow. Rooms can be a bit small but the amenities are all in place for a good night.

What a wonderful stay! I selected this hotel because it was close to the various theaters and activities I sought to visit. When I entered the facilities I was truly surprised and memorized by the décor. This hotel shined like a 5 star hotel. The breakfast buffet was outstanding as well. My room was incredibly comfortable and warm. I could not have asked for a better room. This was a wonderful stay, an excellent hotel, and I would defiantly stay again at this hotel.

Spent a few nights here in July 2015. It was one of the more reasonably priced hotels in London and in general it would be considered Double Tree quality. The hotel is convenient to various items and transportation. It was clean and comfortable, but had various shortcomings, including:
* We had two rooms. One of the two rooms was never made up during our entire stay. No idea why, just that it was never cleaned.
* Rooms are on the smaller size, but that is not unusual in London.
* Breakfast was adequate, but nothing special.
* The room had an overbearing perfume odor that took awhile to get accustom to each time we returned to the room.
* Desk, Restaurant, and Bar staff are largely from eastern Europe with associated accents and sometimes difficulty communicating.
* Concierge service was weak. The desk was often unattended.
I’d check out another hotel before returning to this one.

The Double Tree was a thankful resolve from the other hotel booked by the travel agent.
We were only able to access an executive room which by most standard feels like a typical hotel room.
The A/​C worked wonderfully… once we were shown how to use it.
The shower was a dream.
The bed was hard as a wooden box.
We requested not to be next to an elevator and this was heard BUT… we were next to the loading dock. The noise came and went. Not an executive room quality or cost.
House keeping never vacuumed and we stayed 5 nights.
Sometimes shampoos would be replaced and by the end of our stay, not so much.
The room’s book mentions videos on demand but it was not an option.
The concierge was useless.
Room service was delicious and of fair proportions.
The hotel is in a great location.

Good markets, fast food, and restaurants very close by
Bathroom can pool water from poorly designed shower screen (yes, I know how to use them)
Carpet on stairs somewhat threadbare, odd for a higher class hotel
8 or so minutes walk to Holborn tube
Charged my credit card on arrival for the full day plus £50, which is odd in my experience.
Front desk staff just ok.
I’d stay here for the location with a good rate

Only pro is that it’s a great central location. Walking distance to Covent Garden, Russell Sq, Oxford St, Soho.
The cons began on check-​in. Despite booking 5 months ago and being a Diamond Hilton Honors member they put us in a shoebox room on the 2^nd floor. Barely room to fit two people and suitcases in. After a few complaints there was no success in moving.
The next big negative was the breakfast. Queued for 10 minutes to even get seated. Too little staff around meaning we had no cutlery, then no coffee cups and when they did arrive, the food that was actually out was limited.
The other con to date has been the general staff service level. Very limited interest in anyone going above and beyond for a clearly annoyed consumer.
Definitely will not be staying at this Hilton again. Perhaps it is partly down to the busy holiday season, but a little more common courtesy from the staff would go a long way.

I can’t complain too much about this hotel. The location is amazing — steps from the British Museum, University of London, and the Russell Square tube station. The rooms aren’t bad — I got a single room, which was clean but small (not by European standards). At least the bathroom was reasonably sized, with a full bath/​shower. I found the room cold and dry due to the electric heater. The television worked well enough.
I guess the main problem is the cost — I paid 189 pounds, plus 12.50 for wifi (i guess they’ve lowered their price). Not cheap. But, if you need the location, it’s a good place.

Hotel room very small but you are in London were properties are very expensive. One of the most expensive cities in the world.
Overall room was clean and nice. Breakfast buffet was good, service there and at the bar very nice.
On the last evening we have asked for a wakeup call that we never got, good thing we had a backup plan, we could’ve miss our flight.
A new concierge is desperately needed at this hotel. The guys could barely speak English, very poor writing since w booked a couple of tours and he wrote the booking tickets. No clue about restaurants nearby. He gave us a magazine that featured best restaurants. This was a first from a concierge. Usually they have great recommendations for restaurants. Furthermore he was extremely slow and confused most of the time.

Pros:
Location is perfect, only a few blocks from the tube
Lobby area/​bar area are great too. Plenty of people watching the World Cup games that were on late. Normal bar prices. Free wifi in the bar/​lobby.
Room was good. Three people in one room was perfect for us.
Frendly staff as well
Cons:
An extra 25 pounds a day for wifi in the room. Even if we paid for the wifi, our room had no signal.

Nice hotel. Very clean. Great location. It is about 2 blocks from a tube and bus station. We didn’t park there so I can’t comment on that. Breakfast in the morning was pretty good. You can expect a full Hilton breakfast, i.e. omelets, croissants, cereals, teas, fruit, bacon, porridge, The hotel staff was very friendly.
Our room was nice. It was a king bed with a couch on the Hilton Honors floor but the view was interior, no big deal to us. The bathrooms had a towel warmer. The rooms had one set of European plugs which was nice since they ran out of Euro to British adapters. I didn’t understand how they had completely run out. Also, as a heads up, the wifi only allowed two devices to connect at a time but they did have a wired connection port.
One weird thing, you can see from the outside that this place was old but our floor had a split level and we needed to go up stairs to get to our room. This was really annoying with our baby stroller (pram) and impossible if you are a wheelchair user. We made due but I had never seen that before.
We had booked with Hilton points because the price was expensive (or as expected in a good part of a large city) at close to $ 350/​night. However, the booking options never really asked us to select a room type and when we checked in they were going to give us two twin beds. I didn’t even know hotels, especially nice ones even had twin beds. A ding on Hilton is giving us the crappy room when booking with points, but a small ding on this hotel for having twin beds.
The hotel was also near some good places to eat and get gifts. There were plenty of pubs and coffee shops nearby as well as a few chain restaurants. I didn’t not notice any really nice restaurants. Also, this place is super close the British Museum if that is one of the places you plan to visit.
Overall, we had a great stay.

Thimble-​sized rooms, outdated furniture, mini television, and not even that great a location. A bit of a hike from the tube station. A much better choice is the Hilton London Metropole.

This is a good property and worth the money. It the second time I’ve stayed here, and it is consistently good.
My room was on the Executive Hall, so it was nice and quiet. Sheets, and towels were nice. As usual I love the Crabtree & Evelyn bathroom amenities. The Citron soaps, shampoo and lotions are so nice!
Hotel has a very good breakfast restaurant, and the lobby lounge is Pleasant.
Property is conveniently located a block or so away dr Holborn Tube. Safe neighborhood, plenty of handy shops and such nearby. Definitely worth staying here than some of the hotels by other names that are closer to the main areas of the West End.

As a little afternoon surprise for my sister’s birthday, we booked in afternoon tea here so we could pretend to be posh for a bit! I found a Groupon that gave half price, so a little price saver there. Everything was booked on the phone (I should have thought something was off when I didn’t get email confirmation) and we were ready to go.
As luck would have it, we got locked out of my flat that morning and had to wait for a locksmith to change the locks. Now to most people, that isn’t luck (it definitely didn’t do wonders for my bank balance!) but it meant that I had to call up the hotel and change the reservation time. This WAS lucky, as they hadn’t taken down our initial booking, but were more than happy to push us later when I shouted down the phone at them. I’ve got good telephone voice obviously…
So we rock up, ask where afternoon tea is being held at reception and get pointed in the wrong direction. So far, not so good. Eventually we find the restaurant in the basement of the hotel (could have put it one floor up for some nicer atmosphere in the drawing room, but hey ho). Bellinis all round to kick off the afternoon, now that’s a good way to roll! I always think that afternoon is something you could get used to very quickly, which is dangerous becuase it’s basically an expensive way to eat not very much really!
We started with a selection of sanwiches (salmon, ham, cream cheese & cucumber — ‘for the vegetarians’ as our waiter put it… no s**t Sherlock) which were very pleasant, with the option of having more if we wanted — well of course we wanted, you got one finger sandwich per person! Then a warm scone with jam and clotted cream, which was really nice and fruity. Finally, as our waiter put it, ‘a selection of cakes including carrot cake and *pause as he couldn’t remember what the other cakes were called* that’s it.’ To fill you in dear reader, those other cakes were macaroons and fondant fancies. Never mind. But they were nice, nothing special.
Of course, we have to mention the tea! Not as many varieties as other places I’ve sampled — english breakfast, earl gray, peppermint and camomile. We all went for english breakfast, keep it simple and northern I say! Nice tea, but you couldn’t remove the leaves so it started to stew if left for too long.
I should maybe give this 4 stars, but I’m being mean today. Too many little grievances for me to bump it that one extra star, especially since afternoon tea isn’t really that hard to get right.

I’ve stayed here several times, it’s been great. Breakfast, Wifi, close proximity to EVERYTHING London has to offer. Walking distance and you can catch the tube if you’re lazy! ;)

I had my first Afternoon tea in the UK here.
We booked an afternoon tea and they didn’t have our booking.
How disorganized.
15 minutes later we still haven’t gotten our tea or waters or wine.
Finally, our tea came, I got the English Breakfast tea. the salmon finger sandwiches were good. The scones were good with its strawberry jam. Oh, I loved the carrot cake!

The hotel is located near the British Museum and a short walk to the tube line, and at the time I booked it reasonably priced. Not cheap but in comparison to the rest of the area, and average price of a hotel, they were reasonable.
The room was nice and clean, the service friendly, and even though they put me in a room on the front side of the building the windows were doubled up so as to reduce street noise. The room did get a little stuffy when the weather was warmer, and one of the light bulbs in the bathroom needed to be replaced. And the concierge gave me the wrong directions to a location. All little complaints and I would possibly stay here again.

We stayed here on a Sunday night while on our recent visit to London.
Location is great, close to Holborn tube and pretty central.
On entering the hotel, I was quite optimistic. It is light and airy and the receptionist was pleasant and welcoming and handed over our welcome cookies, which I have to say were great.
We had paid an extra 9 Euro for an E Standby Upgrade, which allowed us to upgrade to an executive room if one was available, which it was. Great so far.
We swiped ourselves into the executive wing, nice feeling of exclusivity there, and our room was everything I had hoped for. A large double room, with a generous bathroom, and a humongous super king bed. Yippee for once I might not have to sleep on the edge.
Now we start deducting stars.
As part of the Executive deal, we were entitled us to use the Executive Lounge, which included complimentary tea coffee and drinks. Unfortunately, it turned out that alcoholic beverages were only available between 5 and 7 PM, and as we were planning on heading out, we were not there for that. I noticed that they were discontinuing the Execute Lounge the following day, perhaps that had something to do with it, but either way, I did not consider a couple of cans of Ginger Ale and Tea/​Coffee to match expectations of an Executive lounge.
We were out most of the day and evening, and on arrival back at the hotel shortly after 11 PM and in need of some refreshment, we headed to the bar. There was no one behind the bar and on enquiring at the front desk was informed that we could order room service, despite the fact that the sign on the bar clearly stated that it was open until 1 AM. At a fiver per tray, I forewent the drinks and went to bed slaking my thirst with water. Not happy.
In the morning, while showering, the shower hose was not attached correctly to the shower head, resulting in most of the water leaking from the hose and no pressure coming from the head. Also, S_’s towel had a big hole in it.
This is a 4 star luxury hotel, and while most of the facilities lived up to the 4 star rating, the little things, including the inability to avail of a promised drink in either the Executive lounge or the bar left me cold. Some may feel I am nit-​picking, having only paid 9 Euro for the upgrade, however, my issues would apply even had we not had the upgrade. Anyway, to be frank I don’t care what price I paid; I feel I was not offered the 4 start executive service that I was sold.
Sorry DoubleTree the hotel itself is fine but you really need to look into your service offering here.

Stayed here twice, once during the Olympics, and the November after. First time there they had given me a room that is reminiscent of traditional English hotel rooms, the fact that is is actually above another building that is adjoined to the lobby, that room was small and kind of cramped compared to American standards but the service was good, there was no wifi available in that room though.
The second time here I was placed in the executive wing of the hotel, and the room was way larger, the robes were in the room, wifi was available and just because of the sheer size, with the mini fridge in the room it made it feel so much bigger and more convenient to stay in. The executive lounge is located off to the side of the bar and it is not that well stocked, it does have several TVs so you can watch TV and unwind a bit with your friends.
The location of this hotel is ideal for business but it is close enough for some partying in the Covent Garden/​Soho/​Leicester Square Area

The DoubleTree by Hilton West End has a splendid location. It is close to the Holborn tube station and there are many things within easy walking distance. That is by far the best thing about the hotel.
Service was reasonably friendly but the concierge desk did not impress. I did leave bags with them both on check-​in (arrived early so room was not ready) and when checking-​out. First time they could not find the bags so had to go and identify them myself. Second time was just asked to pick up the bags from the luggage room, no checking whatsoever what bags were taken.
The front desk staff were however helpful and the touch with chocolate chip cookies upon check-​in was nice.
I can confirm what previous reviewers said about the room. They are fairly small, but can be expected in London. The design is not modern but it was fairly ok. The view from our room was however not very nice and the cleaning staff had the bad habit of spraying some air freshener in the room making it almost unbearable to be there before airing the room for an hour or so.
Room had the basic things that can be expected such as TV, safe, iron (good to be a hotel iron), coffee&tea making facilities. What was missing was however a mini-​bar. There is also wifi offered but as often on Hilton-​brand hotels they charge very high rates for it.
So many things can be said about the breakfast but it will suffice to say that it was awful and it is barely worth having it even if it is included in your room rate.
The thing that makes the hotel still acceptable is the combination of location, the fact that it is clean and the relatively low rates often available.
