History

Established in 2011.

The Venue

The décor is modern and the seating consists of booths at one end of the restaurant, and smaller tables dotted around it.

The Atmosphere

Loyal regulars come back again and again for never-changing favourites, but seasonal additions keep it interesting. Service is reliable and there is no problem adding something to a dish if you wish. The clientele is a mixture of couples young and old, families and groups of friends.

The Food

The menu also hits all the right notes, knockout dishes (try the Duck Breast in a Pomegranate & Walnut sauce). Alternatively, perch on a stool at the bar while knocking back Frozen Vodka shots & snacking on mazeh mix platter.

The Drink

Doost is fully licensed and you can indulge in classic or Champagne cocktails for about £6. One particularly welcome addition is a larger choice of wines by the glass, bottles of wine start at around £13.95 and bottle beer is available.

Doost’s offer could be boiled down to three simple components: local, quality reasonably priced food. I’m not au fait with Persian food, but the majority of the sharing platter we had was flavoursome and good quality — even on a Sunday late afternoon graveyard shift. Interestingly, or strangely, there is a significant vodka menu, which I cannot speak for.
Kennington cross is not the busiest area for restaurant visitors so it’s hard to know how Doost could still be here if not putting out good food. The interior is dark, but modern, simple and clean. There’s a reasonable wine selection (including a good pinot grigio and malbec), but we decided to steer clear of the aforementioned vodka.
Not much else to speak about, but worth a visit if you’re looking for something ‘local’ and different, then worth a punt. You get a discount voucher for other businesses in the area (including amici on the other side of Kennington Cross, which appears to be run by the same group). Let me know how the vodka goes down!

Great to have this addition to Kennington high street. This used to be the old Amici site but has been tarted up to become a smart Persian restaurant. Service is excellent and welcoming. Food is uniformly good. However, it’s definitely not cheap and maybe isn’t perfectly positioned as the kind of neighbourhood restaurant where you’d go frequently.

This used to be Amici but has undergone a transformation into a snazzy upscale Persian restaurant. Service is friendly and knowledgeable. Food was delicate and interesting. The room looks great and has pleasant, unobtrusive live Persian instrumentalists sometimes. Not super cheap but I would definitely recommend.
