Diana Memorial Playground

Beautiful & memorable morning spent in this perfectly planned, cleaned, & gated playground We spent the majority of our morning playing with the kids because let’s face it, it’s the only time as an adult you can slide down a slide, swing in a huge netted tire swing, pretend like you’re pirate & play in an actual pirate ship without the authorities questioning your sanity. This park was an oasis in the urban London jungle.
You cannot enter the park unless you’re with a child. It is gated & they will not let you in unless they see you have a child with you. Like most parents prefer, ask parents before you take photos of their children to post online.
The playground is clean, the bathrooms are clean and spacious. There is a section for ages 3 & under, but my 2 yr old enjoyed every inch of this park.
The pirate ship is awesome, my nephew wants everyone to know you can go inside & under the ship, climb all the way up mast, climb the ropes,& make your sister walk the plank.
My niece recommends the tepees, hidden treasure boxes dug in the sand, the huge netted tire swing you can lay down on with two of your cousins, and the slide behind it (in her humble opinion) is the best one.
Bottom line, this park was kid tested & kid approved.

Excellent experience. Clean. Safe. No adults allowed unless they are escorting a child.

Lovely children’s playground, with all wooden construction. No plastic in sight here. From pirate ships to a music garden and sea monsters– you can find a variety of play areas for different age groups.
Weekends and holidays has a queue of people waiting to get in as they only allow a fixed number of kids inside at a time.
If you are an adult without an accompanying kid, your chances of getting in are close to nil.
I’ve visited with friends kids aged 1 year to 12 years old and each one has always had a great time in here

This is probably the best playground I’ve ever come across. Grass areas, sand areas, mulch areas, water areas – it has it all. Heck, there’s a ship here for kids to play on. There are no kids allowed without an adult, and no adults allowed without kiddos. Opens at 10 am.

As a mother of two high-​energy boys, I have been to A LOT of playgrounds. The Diana, Princess of Wales’ Memorial Playground is by far the best one I’ve encountered anywhere in this great big world. It is a perfect tribute to her memory. The playground is very large but separated into several smaller sections with interlinking tree-​lined paths, tunnels, and bridges between, creating multiple more intimate play spaces and areas to explore. The pirate ship is by far the flagship (no pun intended) piece of equipment here but the «under 5» section with little wooden houses, the interactive musical equipment, and the large dish swing are all amazing features. The playground, like most in London, is enclosed, secure, and a place where parents can expect their children to be safe from outside harm. The adjacent café with children’s menu and several tables provides many lunch options as well as organic ice cream and drinks. I really look forward to bringing my boys back for another visit on our next trip to the UK.

Most amazing park we’ve been too. Tons of stuff to do including the large pirate ship in the center, as well as a cool music garden area, tunnels, and a few other smaller play structures surrounding. Our kids loved it and would have stayed there all day if we allowed it.

This very cool playground in Kensington Gardens is probably best for kids in the 4 – 6 age range. My guys (ages 6 – 10) had a good time jumping off the pirate ship and checking out the other themed areas, but had enough after about 45 minutes.
The surprisingly decent take-​out café next door and clean bathrooms inside are nice bonuses.
Also, the friendly front-​gate guard watching for parentless kids (or childless adults) is reassuring given that the playground gets quite crowded.

One of the best kids parks I’ve ever been to — anywhere. This is one of the first stops we make when we come to London with the kids (2 and 4). They love this park, and so do we. The full size wooden boat provides endless climbing and playing. The crow’s nest is about 30′ high.
There is a teepee area, and wooden fort area, a musical area, little houses, water play area, etc… And the security is great. They only let in people accompanied with kids at a buzzer gate. And… it is free!
It is in the northwest corner of Kennsington Park, north of Kennsington Palace. Totally recommend it. And afterwards, take a walk through the park to High Street Kennsington to eat a Girafee. See review. It is one of the most kid-​friendly places I’ve ever eaten at.

If you don’t have a child, don’t even bother.
I realllyyy wanted to see that big pirate ship i spotted from afar. until my friend was like «diane…you need a child to get in.» SERIOUSLY!!! LAME. There’s a security guard checking too… too bad no asian people went in. i coulda tagged along. What, do they think i’m going to kidnap a child? sigh*

I think Diana would have been pleased to have this area named after her. Located in the middle of Hyde Park, this is a haven for parents to let their kids blow off some steam.
There’s an enormous sandpit with nautically themed structures to climb, swing, slide and rock from. Any child with a half fertile imagination would have a field day creating adventures in this playground.
You are only allowed in if accompanied with a child. I think perhaps we adults should campaign for our own Diana, Princess of Wales’ Memorial Playground!

As an American dad who has traveled a fair amount with a (now) six-​year-​old son, I’ve seen a lot of playgrounds. This is the best I’ve seen, with a variety of excellent, enclosed spaces for kids of various ages, some of which invite real exertion and creativity from young school-​aged kids. Spectacular.

In the middle of Hyde Park is this not-​so-​hidden gem that memorializes Diana, the late Princess of Wales. Perfect on a warm sunny day (as it was when I visited), the fountain and play areas are a delight for the kiddies who need to work off some of that energy, running and playing and splashing.
Because I am sans children in the UK, I was not permitted to actually enter the park and had to view it over the low fence. Bummer, because it looked like great fun. Keeping the child molesters out, I suppose.
Not the right place for a quiet meditation and remembrance. :)

This is the most incredible playground I have ever visited, somewhere with something for children of all ages and plenty of stimuli to get imaginations running wild.
The most striking thing is the ginormous sandpit upon which sits a massive pirate ship with climbable crow’s nest and portholes. Scattered around it are smaller pirate ships that swing, rock or are just for a couple of kids to make believe. A water feature gets the little ‘uns toes wet without risk of any serious drenching.
Around the main feature are lots of little areas including swings, seasaws, a musical garden (very cool), lawns, wooden sculptures, wooden houses, more sandpits, gardens, slides, walkways and wigwams. At the entrance is a small café and there are nice, clean toilets.
Like Coram’s fields, this place is only accessible to those with children. There is also a limit on how many people are allowed to enter the playground. By the time we left the queue was extremely long (it was a sunny half term afternoon by this point). I think this place is a 5 to 10 year old’s dream but is equally fun for those under 5 or slightly older.

Fantastic and well thought out playground that caters for all ages.
The Peter Pan theme is brilliant, and as each play area is visually separated by garden walls it allows you to enjoy each area for itself rather than being overwhelmed by the sheer size of the area. The high garden also provides shade which is missing from so many other playgrounds. Areas include swings, under 3’s area with treehouses and other structures, littler kid sand play area (with smaller boats to play on), bigger kid sand play area (with huge pirate ship to play on), sensory area, and a treetop run with slides. There is also two areas where you can put down a rug and enjoy a picnic.
Tip: it might be worth leaving the buggy at home, moving it between play areas can be a pain unless you are with a group and have staked out a picnic spot.
Tip 2: each play area has more than one way to enter or exit, so you might need to keep a closer eye on smaller kids.

I love how it has a door man to keep riff-​raft out. They have a no– kid, no– entry policy except for ½ hour a day weekday mornings so don’t just wander over just because you are on a Princess Diana Memorial Tour. I assume this is to keep paedophiles out but you know… remember to show the child attached to you on arrival or they will boot you out.
As the others have mentioned, this has a Peter Pan theme to it; so there is the massivest sand pit (size of like a normal/​large london flat) with a galleon in it; teepees, mini ships, mini beach huts, a fountain, crocodiles, walkways, rope bridges treasure chests as well as a very cool «sound walk» and the pre– req swings, slides and what nots.
This gets very busy in the afternoon; morning is much more chilled out and I guess the kids are not as tired so less cranky= more sharing= less arguments= less crying.
I was also super impressed that they have fixed everything that was broken when we were there 2 weeks ago. We have been waiting for a new slide at Holland Park for the whole summer, and they just don’t seem to give a damn.
Pirate park rulz! (though drool monster actually prefer the spaceship park at Holland Park)

What an amazing playground! But be forewarned it isn’t your typical playground. Instead it is a nice tucked away garden divided into multiple areas to play. All the structures are solid lumber and are fantastic quality. It was like being inside the story of Peter Pan. We went a few times with our kids and they loved it!!!

This was a pretty cool place…
Some items that are really cool worth noting:
— a gate for in and out so it is somewhat contained
— areas for all sizes of kids
— a changing area
— area for sitting
— stroller parking areas
These are items that are often overlooked, but this is obviously a well thought out play area.
There are swings, there are slides, there are little houses for the little ones, there is a pirate ship for kids to play on.
And yes… there were even some rowdy parents that were unruly… but… that’s life.
Unfortunately, our little girl was a bit tired by the time we got there, and it was quite busy, so she didn’t have as much fun as she could have, but nonetheless, it’s a great playground, one of the best that we’ve been to (and we’ve been to probably upwards of 20.
If you have kids and are in London, you should stop by here and let them run some of that energy off!
