I like this place a lot. They have good fresh meat(there is always a queue) and the vegetables and fruit are much better than in other supermarkets, great price per value. You can find many Arabic products but I was also surprised they have a few Spanish too! Next to the food counter they have plenty of cereals and legumes that you won’t find easily anywhere else. Their falafel are good, good, good. And they have some really nice surprises for those with sweet tooth too. You will be amazed by how many not Arabic people have discovered this gem.

Damas Gate meat counter is brilliant. The lamb flies out. People regularly buy whole and half lamb. Shoulders and legs also fly out. It’s great watching the butchers joint the meat. The chicken wings, which they call nebleks, are skinless which is good. You can also get mutton very easily there and things like tongue and heart. It’s a bit of a free for all and people often try to push in, and be careful to make sure you pull a ticket when queuing for the meat counter. It can be a long wait and if you forgot to pull a ticket your number won’t come up!

I’ve been doing my monthly grocery shopping at Damas Gate for years, and I particularly go there for specific items that are unavailable at usual convenient stores. This place is especially a good option for Arabs that yearn for Arabic food(sweets, savoury pastries; and ingredients and spices of the Middle Eastern Cuisine). Their meats and poultry are popular and you will always find a numbered queue at the back of the shop. Their fruits and vegetables are good and fresh, I always go for their fresh mint and small(Arabic) cucumbers. I also like their fresh pita bread. I particularly go for their frozen mulukhia! It’s mine and my daughter’s favourite. I find the other products especially which are available in regular supermarkets(Tesco and others) are a bit over-priced. The staff is good and also supportive and helpful. PS. try their cheese rolls(3 for £1) and their Falafel(5 for £1) it’s very yummy!

Just across the road from its biggest rival, Damas Gate marks itself proudly on the Uxbridge road as a leading independent supermarket. Fruit and veg are the mainstays, all generally very good value. The focus is on middle eastern fare with breads, cheeses and halal meat. You can get most of your grocery basics here and any spices and herbs for more exotic cuisine. There’s a great big shiny gate above the entrance, with a little handle. I love that detail. However, I usually patronise Al Abbas across the road because it’s on the more convenient side for me. If I wasn’t so lazy I’d flit between the two.
