Corney & Barrow wine bar in the shadow of St Paul’s. By day a Modern British restaurant serving breakfast and lunch, by night a lively wine bar serving tapas and light bites. DJ every Friday, large outside terrace, private dining room and lounge bar available for event hire.

History

Established in 2004.

The City’s always known how to work hard and play harder. And we’ve always been on tap to help out, ever since Edward Corney and Robert Barrow sold their first bottle of claret in 1780.

Fast-​forward 230 years. Our wine merchants hold two royal warrants — importing some of the world’s most exclusive wines — and C&B bars have become part of the fabric of the City of London.

Well located on the square perfect for after dinner drinks! The pub has many friendly patrons creating a social atmosphere.
We were a fairly large group visiting and found a table easily. Unfortunately we received no service at our table and ended up ordering from the bar. The bar service was prompt but nothing special.
The menu here is also quite average, which is disappointing considering the extensive choices around.

Not too bad I guess. Totally cavernous inside — which we avoided — but, if you can get a table outside, it’s a good place to people watch the folks going about their business in the square.
Bearing in mind the sheer size of the place, the staff are friendly and manage to do an adequate job of keeping up with everyone. The wine list was reasonably priced and the food didn’t look too horrific.

Great food! Really good skinny fries! Staff are young trendy and friendly wearing t-​shirts that read ‘work hard play harder’ however 4 of us got our food and 1 was left waiting 5 minutes or so, no biggy to us tho (but that is why I’ve only given it 4 out of 5 stars) and the waitress apologised profusely. Other diners consisted of suited business men so we did feel slightly underdressed. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere, quite casual considering the general clientele of the place. All in all we had a nice experience but not one to choose if your in a rush. Would recommend and go again myself.

The best metaphor I can use for Corney and Barrow is Applebee’s London style. If you don’t get the reference let me quickly explain.
The place is truly an exhibit of being in the right location. The outdoor seating area is jammed on nice evenings as four large office folk move downstairs to decompress in the large square which C&B front.
I would not recommend eating here unless its a meal of convenience. All things considered the crowd, location, and corporate efficiency of the operation making the whole experience tolerable but not memorable and perhaps a smidgen sterile.
