Clapham Picturehouse

Sunday members’ screenings at 11am are a great start to a Sunday. Get’s you out of bed early on a Sunday and enjoy more of the day!

I really do prefer smaller cinemas to the larger corporate owned outfits. They seem much more relaxed and casual, and most of all you don’t have to bother with the crowds. At Clapham Picturehouse, they have a nice bar and reception room where you can just pop in for a drink or relax before your show time. They have some food, but I’ve never thought to indulge. However, their desserts are delicious.
The theaters themselves are small, as to be expected, and while the seats leave a lot to be desired, they are ample for a normal sized person (notice I didnt say average?). The back rows have seats that don’t recline, so if you need some extra space go for the middle, and don’t be shy about sitting in the front row; it’s far enough away from the screen that you won’t break your neck looking up for two hours.
On a few occasions I’ve been disappointed with the temperature control in the room which seems to be an ongoing issue. The most recent time we left bc it was just too hot. We made mention to an employee, but per the usual when you bring this sort of business up with service employees in this town, you just get this look of apathy like one can’t be bothered. This makes me want to find another weekend flick staple.

They organise also regularly some themed broadcast or other events (concert, …).
You have also a little bar in the cinema and the streets were it’s located has some cool bars and places to hang-​out waiting for your film !
The films they broadcast are also very good choice :)

movies. events. inexpensive. deals and programs and incentives for cheaper viewing. the place is ok, and clean enough. Not perfect, but its fine.

The cinema is not so big, but I like it. The seats are comfortable and the screens are big. It’s a place where you can drink a beer while watching the movie which is really cool. Great sound system and well-​stocked bar.

What’s not to like? Cool location with lots of pre/​post-​film eating & drinking options, a bloody cool bar within the picture house, generally showing some good, interesting movies, good snack options. Joint membership was one of the best presents I’ve received.

This has to be my favourite place in London. I find Clapham Picture House very appealing since I have never been into big, fancy, futuristic cinemas. The screens might not be as big as compared to other places but the quality of the picture is astonishing and the seats are incredibly comfortable. I fell in love with the old fashioned looks and atmosphere. One downside is that due to its size it tends to get packed really fast so I would recommend booking in advance. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Great local cinema. Screens are small, but picture quality and sound quality top notch. Seats are really comfy they even recline! Plus there’s a great chill out bar downstairs and I think you can even bring wine into the screens.

Always had a good time here, good service and really comfortable seats. Slightly on the pricey side but I think that’s typical of the indie cinemas

Great local cinema with comfy chairs (which is a must for me as I have back problems) and the option to buy a bottle of wine to take in with you WAY too good to pass up!
Only downfall is the price of the snacks and stuff but there’s loads of places nearby to eat and they have a great deal with Bodean’s across the road!

Nice cinema, really convenient for me going there after work, and then heading home after.
I like the atmosphere of this place — I like that it’s encouraged to bring a drink in with you to watch the movie, rather than being a popcorn and diet coke place, you know? i mean having a drink with a movie is just a pleasant, relaxing experience. Plus the chairs here are comfy, and you can recline pretty far in them — definitely better than most other cinemas i have experienced (other than my favourite place in edinburgh which has reclining sofas as seats)
they show a quirky programme of films, and it makes for a very pleasant evening out.
it’s not cheap, at £11 a ticket its on par with central london cinemas, but it’s by far a nicer experience, so i’d rather spend my money here than at the bigger chainsm, most definitely.

They also play live jazz here sometimes.

We go here occasionally if I’m staying over with family in Clapham. Nice, not too big, (as in Leicester Square style), but very comfortable. Local deals can be advantageous to help your cash go further. Drinks and stufdf an be a bit pricey so it might be worth taking some in with you. Plenty of eateries local to the site.

The Picturehouse chain just does it for me– you can have a beer, you feel human, you can go see Almodóvar and then you can go see Harry Potter. No judgement, but loads of taste.
PLUS they always do special screenings — midday screenings for people with autistic spectrum disorder (and lower volume and better lighting), for young mums with screaming babies, etc.
It’s the kind of cinema I’d run if I ran a cinema. So I go there. You should, Too.
(but the Ritzy is better…)

Going to the Clapham Picturehouse makes me feel like I’m going to a real, old school cinema and I love it. Discreetly tucked off the main road, it still shows all the latest films in intimate little screens and some cool arthouse indie films too if you are lucky.
They have really tasty food as well as popcorn and the rest of it and not surprisingly it’s much cheaper than its blockbuster counterparts where you can pay up to £30 just for your ticket, popcorn and Coke!

What? I can bring my beers into the cinemas? Sold!
I like the look and feel of this place as soon as I step in as it looks deceptively like any other Clapham bar, with comfy lounges for small groups of friends to sit and chill, whether it’d be discussing their expectations of a movie they’re about to watch or dissecting the good and bad parts of a movie they’ve just seen! Or in my case, just sit and chill over a glass of wine as the tickets had all sold out for the session I’d wanted to watch.
There’s a good variety of alcoholic drinks on offer and fairly priced, however I thought the price for your normal popcorn, coke and candy combo was a little steep at 15 squids (or thereabouts). Also, was very disappointed with my cold and stale popcorn!
However, its a small gripe and I did go, late on a Sunday night, so perhaps just caught them on their off day. Apart from that, its a winning combination for me! Movies + alcohol and very comfy RECLINING chairs!
And before I forget, look at at the ceiling next time you enter one of their cinemas, its twinkling with little LED lights — makes for a very romantic evening if you’re just catching a movie with your special someone…

Oh Clapham Picturehouse how do I love thee? Let me count the ways:
1. Your joint membership which easily pays itself back with three free tickets each for me and my significant other as well as discounts on tickets all the time and membership only free screenings (of good movies too!)
2. Your popcorn, salty is best, which is oh so good
3. Your theaters which are both clean and seem to be recently upgraded (very comfy seats with the larger theater, there are 4 theaters in this cinema, having reclining chairs)
4. Location, location, location. I can literally crawl to this theater, I LIKE things I can literally crawl to :) (right off the Clapham Common tube as well)
5. Your bar, I thought this was a novel concept rampant in the UK but seems to happen in just a few very special theaters… here you can buy a pint, cocktail or wine and drink it at the bar or even better, while you are sitting in the theater watching your flick (SCORE!) Although in retrospect, maybe you should have cups guests can use to put their drinks in that fit in your cup holders… I appreciate you letting me drink wine out of a wine glass while watching the latest tearjerker starring that twilight guy, but since it absolutely does not fit into the cup holder no matter how hard I try… trust me the person sitting next to me DOES NOT.
6. Your ability to book tickets online (and if member not have to pay a fee) and be able to choose your seat for nothing extra. SO great when that blockbuster comes to town that you are dying to see but not dying to see in the first row. Also kudos to the ability to print 1 ticket for your entire party at home and just waltz on to the theater, no need to wait in line to get tickets you already purchased, whoohoo!
7. One day I am sure I will love that you also have showings for children every week as well as the «Silver Scream» showing of a new release in theater every week in the morning that is specifically for Mom’s with babies who want to get out of the house and enjoy a flick. get it? Silver Scream? oh you Clapham Picturehouse you.

Like its sister, The Ritzy, Clapham Picture House makes going to the cinema more enjoyable than your average Odeon experience. I personally prefer the Ritzy for its theatre heritage and excellent homemade cakes, but Clapham is a happy second choice.
The bar/​café is worth a visit in itself — a bustling chilled-​out atmosphere, and something a bit different if you don’t fancy the pub, especially good during the aftrenoons (can get busy in the eve). They also hold film quizzes there.
Although a little more expensive than some places, this place is worth it for the intimate independent feel, which gives your film an edge the Odeon can’t. It also accepts the Orange Wednesdays 2−4−1 offer.

This is a great little cinema just off the high street in Clapham.
The cinema has a real ‘alternative’ feel to it. It feels as if this should be a cinema showing only independent /​underground films or something but the beauty is you can see all the big hitters here too.
The cinema itself isn’t really huge but the atmosphere is great. There’s a little bar connected to the cinema that serves nice cocktails, which is nice to do before you head into see a film.
Any SW residents, especially those in Clapham should definitely come to the Clapham Picturehouse. It’s a nice night out with friends or if you’re stuck for something to do on a random evening.
