Amazing pizza, best in London. Must try four cheese pizza with pepperoni. Cookies and tiramisu.

Unlike some of the new coffee shops in London Brera’s coffee is smooth and strong. Brera has been around for almost 25 years and it was one of the first new wave coffee shops in London. The difference is that it does a wide range of fresh panninis, great pizzas and lots of fresh stuff! The atmosphere is authentic and it doesn’t feel like one of the many formulaic chains serving mediocre coffee and second rate food. The latest wave of specialist coffee shops seem to trade on how to produce the most astringent coffee possible — Brera avoids this trap and continues to serve some of the best espresso based coffee in London.

Myself and a colleague met up with a friend at Café Brera to get a coffee and a bite to eat. First thing to note is that there are a couple of Café Brera’s dotted around Canary Wharf. I’ve never seen one anywhere else, but if you make the mistake of just saying«Meet me at Café Brera», you could well end up at the wrong place. The lunchtime rush was in full swing, and the staff seemed rather hurried and flustered to get everyone served as fast as they could. Your usual café run, then. I opted for a smoothie and a Milano sandwich, which turned out to be a dry ciabatta with some salad and salami inside it. Considering it cost over a fiver, I thought it could’ve been a bit. better. The smoothie was alright, but I’ve had better. Hell, I’ve made better. The coffee here isn’t anything notable either — there are many better coffeehouses across London which will whip you up that luxurious espresso. Such as the nearby Taylor St Baristas.

One of the best coffee shops in wharf. I don’t know where is their coffee been coming from but it definitely worth waiting in the queue and enjoy the taste and smell afterward.

They do decent pizza here, and decent hot chocolate, but I am not a huge fan of the coffee. The décor is smart and stylish and the staff are friendly when they get more than 2 seconds to talk to you. The place always has a queue and is quite frantic but it’s a nice place to meet friends for a relaxed coffee once you’ve got it from the counter :)

The line of people which snakes out of the door for much of the day reflects Brera’s popularity amongst Wharf workers and Brera does a lot of things well. First, and probably most importantly it offers brisk service which means that notwithstanding the queue you will get served sooner than you think. Second the coffee is not too bad — not up to the standards of London’s best but drinkable and much better than the Starbucks close by. Third, I like coming here for lunch to grab a quick slice of pizza. No, the pizza is not amazing but sometimes a slice of average pizza is just what a boy needs. So overall, one of the better places to visit in the Wharf but not only ok when judged by non-Wharf standards.

Best coffee in Canary Wharf without a doubt(although that’s not hard now is it!). Also, and I’m going to regret saying this, one of the only places in Canary Whatf that you can pop-in for an after work drink, find a seat and have a conversation without being defened or pushed out of the way.

Perfectly acceptable food, if a bit over-priced compared to everything else in the area for take-away. I ordered a sandwich and a slice of cake, and when I was handed a bag I left, expecting that it contained my full meal. Alas, it just contained the cake, so I had to go back and wait in front of the sandwich counter for another 5 minutes for my sandwich to be finished. In the end the cake was mediocre, and the sandwich was pretty tasty, but the all-in price of about £8 wasn’t justified.

Hmmm Canary Wharf, do I like you or not? Armies of grey, black and navy blue suits come marching towards me from all sides. They all have the same number crunching bleak expressions that scare me. I throw myself into Café Brera to escape. Dusting myself off, I look around and see more suits sipping tea, eating cake and discussing business. Whether I like Canary Wharf or not, I was in a good coffee shop. Free Wi Fi is always a winner, as is fresh juices, tasty apple tart and the strange type vegetarian bap Lizzie ate that I now wish I’d tried. The décor is typical of a coffee lounge. There are no surprises here. It is simple counter service, you eat, drink and go back to work.

As a café in Canary Wharf, you could do worse. They have got free wifi(bonus) yet you’ll have to put up with loud music and rude staff. In this area you are drowning in chains and this is one of the smaller ones so its really not that bad but… then again, unless I have to… I won’t be back! Short sweet and to the point!

Wow. Have you ever been to a suit-dance-off? Neither had I. Until now. Don’t get me wrong, a suit-dance-off is quite different from your 80s Prom dance off. It’s far more of a systematized business performance, used to lure potential clients and partners in, only to pounce at just the right moment. The suits conduct a series of rhythmic steps, choreographed to perfection with the sole purpose sealing the deal.(Actually, it’s a lot more like Prom than I originally thought!) Canary Wharfies flock to Café Brera for«meetings» where they drink tiny espressos and close business deals, mesmerized by the Afro-Cuban trance jams blaring in the background. The«coffee shop» aspect is merely a façade, but one they keep up quite well with a killer latte, fresh fruit smoothie, and breakfast sandwich. Getting down to business has forever taken on new meaning!
