Bravo November is, famously, the Chinook helicopter that singlehandedly served the troops and vessels of the British Forces during the Falklands Conflict in 1982. The three other Chinooks were lost when the Conveyancer was sunk by an enemy missile, with the loss of twelve lives and all the logistics on board. To become known only as ‘Bravo November’, the lone Chinook ferried troops, munitions, food, the wounded, prisoners, among the Islands and from ship to shore. With no means of being serviced or having repairs or maintenance, she creakingly finished her duty there a little worse for wear and much fired at. Arguably, much of Britains victory is due to her and the ‘can do’ spirit of the pilots who flew her and the men she carried. Bravo November went on to serve in Cyprus, the Gulf both times, Lebanon, to name just a few places. With three Distinguished Flying Crosses, this year she has been retired and will remain at Hendon.
