History
Established in 1983.
Bleeding Heart yard takes its name from the notorious murder of the 17th Century society hostess Lady Elizabeth Hatton. The widowed daughter-in-law of Sir Christopher Hatton, (one-time «dancing master» to Queen Elizabeth 1), Lady Elizabeth was rich, young, and very beautiful: among her many conquests she numbered both the Bishop of Ely and the Spanish Ambassador, Señor Gondomar. Her soirees were legendary. Her invitations much sought-after.
In 1983, Robert and Robyn Wilson celebrated the history of the Yard by opening Bleeding Heart Wine Bar and Bistro, in the derelict cellars beneath the Yard. 30 years on it has grown to encompass a fine-dining Restaurant, a Bistro and Terrace, a Tavern Bar and Grill and a selection of handsome private Dining Rooms. It is famed for its often legendary soirees.
