I needed to order a large cake to celebrate an engagement and decided to go with Bakers of Ealing rather than a chain such as Patisserie Valerie. Unfortunately it really wasn’t up to scratch — The cake was decorated well, but the sponge was very dry, and almost tasteless. It was meant to be a chocolate cake, but I honestly couldn’t say it tasted like it. I would have really loved to have given the bakers of Ealing a good review but it just wasn’t good enough, neither was it what you’d expect for £85.

Having used The Bakers on and off for going on 5 years now I would say that this is a rather average bakery all round. The staff are efficient(sometimes) and there’s quite a few of them in the store, which probably accounts for the fact that the prices are higher here than in your average bakery to pay their wages! I can’t say that I’ve ever received a particularly friendly service here from the staff, and it’s not as if the quality is any better than Greggs for items such as pastries when you consider the prices are around 30% higher and above. . Their speciality cakes are pretty good, have had them a few times at special occasions and the freshly made sandwiches are indeed freshly made. There can be quite a large queue at lunchtimes which is actually off-putting, I’ve often walked out not wanting to waste my precious lunch break standing in such a long queue.

Excellent bakery that covers all your needs: baguettes, small loaves of all types, larger loaves, fresh-made sandwiches for your lunch break(but you’ll have to queue), decorated cakes, croissants and other pastries, pies and tarts. Like most bakeries, the earlier in the day you go the more likely you are to get fresh items. And the bread won’t be as cheap as Tesco’s, nor will it have preservatives that allow it to last for a week, so buy often and when you’re hungry.
