Our experience dealing with Bairstow Eves as our letting agents in Walthamstow started when our boiler broke. They sent a repair man quickly, who diagnosed the problem, but never sent the quote for the landlord to approve, so we went without hot water for over a week over a simple, £100 repair. I called every day for a week, the landlord emailed them and CCed us, but they still couldn’t be asked to forward on the quote, return calls, or reply to emails. They were also difficult about sending back our deposit. Two separate people emailed us asking for our bank details, and the second time they actually emailed the previous tenant with my partner on CC asking for bank details, as if the previous tenant had been dwelling with my partner. Luckily we caught it quickly, and they didn’t return our deposit to the previous tenant! Though they did take longer than the mandated 10 working days to return it. Overall, they were very disorganised and difficult to deal with. We’ve had issues with amount of the last month’s rent as well, and neither us nor the landlord can get them to respond to emails or return calls, several months after we’ve vacated the property. Fortunately we had a very patient and understanding landlord who was(and still is) easy enough to deal with directly!
