Au Ciel

This café is high on price but very low on value and quality. We ordered a cappuccino, which was just a filtered coffee with lukewarm milk (no foam). They forgot all about our «fresh, homemade» scone, and when I had to walk back to the counter to ask about it 10 minutes later, they pulled a dusty old hockey puck out of a plastic box and tossed it on a plate. Worse was that they didn’t even bother to warm it up for me to at least give it some semblance to «freshly baked.» And just as it looked, the scone also tasted like an old hockey puck.
But the absolute worst was the chocolate macaron we had the misfortune of picking. This macaron was completely stale — like, half a year old stale — and when I went back in to question the French manager about its freshness, he unbelievably told me it only seemed stale because it was in the chill case, and he would just MICROWAVE it for me to make it fresh again. I have had many macarons before, and I have never once heard about this ludicrous «tip». I think if you suggested to any proper French café/​bakery owner that you should nuke a macaron, he/​she would probably faint or give your ignorant butt a swift kick out of their shop. Our experience at Au Ciel was a disgrace to all French and British bakeries/​cafes.

Not worth the money. Staggeringly slow service (even though there were 3 members of staff and it was not busy), average food and sky-​high prices (£15 for 2 soups that we suspected were from a can, 2 teas and one pre-​packaged wrap). Average to poor experience.

Petit salon de thé situé au cœur de Dulwich Village, cet établissement a la particularité d’être multi-​fonction: chocolaterie (large choix de succulents chocolats Valrhona), boulangerie-​pâtisserie (les viennoiseries et gâteaux sont préparés par des chefs français) et café-​snack (sélection de cafés et herbals teas, sandwiches).
Cependant, évitez de vous y rendre à la sortie des écoles car vous n’aurez aucune chance d’y trouver une place (la salle né compte en effet qu’une dizaine de tables).
Petit plus: il n’est pas impossible que vous y croisiez Jason Statham (Le transporteur) car sa maison est à 2 pas !!

For starters, they know how to make a fine cup of coffee, then just ask and a truffle on a saucer or a wedge of lemon cake can be brought to your table.
Sitting amongst their beautiful array of ribbon tied sweets, beautifully packaged teas and biscuits and counter of cakes and chocolates is perfectly atmospheric.
There are a limited number of tables to sit at here and so long as it is not too busy, it is the kind of place that you can sit for hours. There is nothing pretentious about Au Ciel Patisserie, it is quite simply mouthwatering and relaxing.
