This is the bread stall at Stoke Newington’s saturday farmers’ market on Church Street. Just really great organic bread from Syd Aston, a true artisan baker of the old-school: he was the guy who started Celtic Bakers(now a big London organic bread operation) way back in the 80’s. He makes the finest Pain au Levain you’ll taste outside France and a host of other tasty sourdoughs and«normal» loaves as well as pesto-cheese twists that are, frankly, dangerously addictive. Arrive late at the market and you’ll be faced with a crumby stall almost emptied by the hordes. The actual bakery is up in NW2 but he only has a few market outlets where you can buy it so I thought I’d mention this one. You can also get it in a handful of proper independent organic shops but you’ve no chance of finding it in any of the chains.
