Arts And Crusts

I discovered this delightful little café in Walthamstow just the other day and I’m very happy I did. It’s literally like two blocks from my house but I never knew it was there. Named very playfully and very accordingly as Arts and Crusts, the café looks very inviting from the outside with a fun outdoor seating area with colourful table mats that look really cool (like comic books) and the windows are absolutely plastered with pictures. It makes you want to go see what’s inside.
The room inside is very small but it’s quite cozy non the less. There are seats inside too but just a few. For me that was quite enough as I was the only one there. They support local artists and show their work in the café which is great. The menu consists of mainly different kind of sandwiches and desserts. They also sell multiple artisan breads and cakes.
I came in 4.10pm and learned that the café closes already at 4.30pm (which is a bit of a shame). The girl had already cleaned up her station so at first I was very politely told I couldn’t order sandwiches anymore but I was welcomed to any of the desserts on display. I can’t have any desserts at the moment (for fitness reasons) so I had to decline. After this she then offered to make me a sandwich anyway which was great! That is how you treat a customer :) I had the salmon sandwich on brown bread with tea and it was lovely.
In short Atrs and Crusts is an adorable and artsy little café in Walthamstow. Nothing like it in that area. A true gem — I will definitely become a regular :)

Walthamstow’s best kept secret? It’s certainly one of the best cafes and certainly far too secret (they don’t even have a website just a twitter feed).
This lovely café is run by a warm, welcoming husband-​and-​wife team that are embedded deep in the local community (their house is just opposite). It regularly exhibits local artists’ work. And they’re working on converting an old garage next door into an art space too. All very worthy and community-​minded. But
More importantly, the food and drink are excellent. Coffees are cracking, sandwiches and cakes are even better. Fresh ingredients, home made food, lovingly prepared.
So, get on down there. Now!
