Arcelor Mittal Orbit Tower

Inmitten des olympischen Parks in Stratford steht dieser futuristische Aussichtsturm, mit sehr eigenartigem Design.
Nachdem man sich ein Ticket gekauft hat, gelangt man mit einem Lift auf die oberste Plattform.
Hier hat man rundherum eine tolle Aussicht auf die Skyline von London und die östlichen Stadtteile. Leider aus der Ferne, da Stratford nicht im Zentrum liegt.
Insgesamt gibt es zwei Plattformen. In der unteren gibt es noch einen kleinen Souvenirstand.
Als Highlight hat man noch die Möglichkeit, sich von der oberen Plattform bis zum Boden abzuseilen. Dies muss allerdings vorher gebucht werden.
Zurück nach unten gelangt man über eine umgitterte Außentreppe (nicht empfehlenswert, da man keine gute Sicht hat) oder über den Lift.

I visited the Orbit Tower last year after admiring Anish Kapoor’s giant sculpture since it was completed prior to the 2012 Olympic Games in London. It now sits in the beautifully landscaped Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. It is an impressive site as you leave the Straford Stations or Stratford Westfield. It is the UK’s tallest sculpture. To put it into perspective, it is actually 6 times taller than the equally impressive ‘Angel of the North’ sculpture (just outside Gateshead).
It was with great excitement that I went to the park and decided to go up to the sculptures viewing platform. This is really where it lost it’s 2 stars for me. I was disappointed and totally underwelmed with the view. I suppose for a £15 entry fee, I was expecting more. Perhaps it was because the weather wasn’t great, but I really was expecting a bit more.
The best view, was looking down at the London Aquatics Centre, which looks even more stunning, that it did during the Olympic Games. It is also now a fully functioning public swimming baths.
The view of the stadium did nothing for me eithre, as you could only see a portion of it from the viewing platform. The actual park itself is not visible in its full glory, as that is where the entrance and lift shafts have been placed.
At £15, I think it is over priced. I noticed recently of the official website that for an additional £11.95, you can get a pass that gives you repeat visits for the following 12 months.
I’ve noticed other great reviews here, so perhaps it is just me, or perhaps my expectations were too high.

This UK’s tallest sculpture and is open every day between 10am and 6pm, but best to book in advance as some days may be closed for corporate events, parties, and weddings. It is now surrounded by landscaped lawns and at the base of the Orbit, the EastTwenty Bar & Kitchen for light refreshments. You get quite a good view of the surrounding areas, including a bird’s eye view of inside the Stadium, soon to be the home of West Ham United Football Club.

Gotta be the newest tallest attraction around. Its cost £15 (£12 student or OAP) for a trip to the viewing platform with amazing views of London area. If you like to experience cities from an elevated viewing platform then this is for you. Check out my pics as its an unusual structure thats for sure.

I visited tge park first day it opened to the public. It was full of people and celebrations, kids performing and media were present.
One of the first thing that will catch your eye as you walk towards the park from Westfield Shopping centre is this abstract striking red Sculpture. Love it or hate it, it does quite catch everyone’s eye coming in the park.
I personally love this sculpture, I enjoy abstract art, I think it fits well with the beautiful landscape of the Park. My next aim is to go at the top to see the views.

Although when it was designed and being built it was easy to dismiss Anish Kapoor’s wiry, metal sculpture as brash; brazen and out of place with the landscape, it’s actually difficult to imagine the Olympic Park without it. All those images beamed around the world have displayed it at its best and when you stand at various DLR platforms and other viewing platforms around the City, there’s a feeling of pride and familiarity with this strange iron structure that has feature so much in recent weeks and now seems to resonate with so many of us.
The views from the top of the Orbit are beautiful of the Park and it’s various buildings — the Velodrome, Stadium and the neighbouring practice track and the Aquatics Centre, some that are and aren’t staying on as another of Team GB’s successful Olympic legacy. Also, of the ever increasing and developing London skyline, it simply is spot the landmark — with the cable car; Excel; O2; Gherkin; Eye; St. Paul’s; Canary Wharf and much more vying for position.
I urge everyone to go up the Orbit for one of the best views of London from one of the best places that has created some of the best memories in London that will last a lifetime.
