Apple Cart is an independent theatre company holding a regular story-telling/live music session in local pubs. Currently at the White Hart on the first Sunday of the Month, they’re also playing Greenbelt Festival, and have plans to expand. What to expect? 2 professional actors bringing to life the old, old stories using contemporary language, multimedia and original scores(Peter is also a composer). Phil is a minister as well, and brings this to his fresh telling of the stories. I’ve taken several non-Christians to this, and they’ve all got something out of it, without feeling like they were being pushed into believing anything. It’s possible to find the truth of the stories without having to believe in the existence of God. One recent story took a parable about being a ruler, and translated it to a modern deputation going to UN, complete with simultaneous translation, and graphic footage of a coup, cleverly spliced with one of the actors. The words«God» «Church» «Bible» «Jesus» «David» etc are never mentioned, instead other(accurate) terms are used. It is professional, intelligent theatre, and a brilliant place to hang out. It’s also free, and suitable for anyone over 14. Well recommended.
