Anthropologie

Being an American expat, Anthro has a special place in my heart. When you walk in any Anthro store, you feel so goddamn happy and inspired. Maybe there is some sort of addictive chemical in the air, but even when you are super broke, just browsing in an Anthro store can lift the dullest spirits. This one on Regent Street happens to have a Sale Room — where there are great deals to be had. Spend some time digging in there and you are bound to leave with something that will strike your fancy for a while.
Customer service in this location is not as consistent as the one on Kingly Street (Sloane Square) — but still very friendly.

Superbe boutique dans laquelle on a passé des heures… à tout explorer en long en large et en travers ! La boutique est immense, sur plusieurs étages, et on y trouve de tout: vêtements, accessoires, bijoux, produits de beauté, bougies qui sentent trop bon, vaisseile, déco, papeterie, produits de bain, literie…
Dès l’entrée, j’ai été impressionnée par ce mur gigantesque couvert de fausse végétation, qui donne ce côté original au magasin, qui nous plonge dans une atmosphère propre à cette boutique !
Le style est particulier et j’adore ! On trouve des pièces originales, ça sent bon, c’est beau…
J’aurai pu acheter de tout ! Mais ça aurait été la cata pour mon compte en banque !
J’ai particulièrement aimé les grosses bougies aux parfums délicieux, et les parfums qui sentent tout aussi bon… Les bijoux sont aussi superbes et originaux… et les petits carnets et autres cahiers sont trop mimi !
Le gros -: les prix sont vraiment élevés, c’est rare d’y trouver des choses vraiment abordables, et quel dommage ! j’y retournerai quand même pour le plaisir des yeux, et qui sait, peut être pour faire deux ou trois achats de folie !

La déco de la boutique est parfaite, les vêtements/​objets de déco aussi, mais ça coûte un bras! Prévoir un gros budget shopping!

One of my favorite women’s clothing and home store from the states. Sadly, the closest one to Amsterdam is in London. I love just about everything about this place. Creative merchandising and visuals that tell a story (little vignettes that are to live for). If you’re into the modern look then this place is not for you. It’s more retro/​vintage with a touch of classics.
If I could decorate my home with anything i wanted, it would easily be 50% anthropologie to add to the eclectic look i appreciate. They have kitchen, bedding, books, jewlery, parfums, candles, body, etc. etc.
Clothing is a bit expensive for my budget BUT… they usually have an awesome sale section. Being the dog/​animal lover that i am, they also seem to have clothing and accessories with dog images or other animals. My last purchase from an Anthropologie (the one in London) was a super awesome and sweet tshirt with dog images!!! i also saw a dress with dog images but it was over my budget (yes i know i’m a crazy dog lover). In fact, they always have the cutest dresses all year round.
If this is your style then remember to never come here with your male other half because you will most likely spend at least an hour in here wandering through everything and wondering what you will take home with you.
Definitely one of my girlie wonderlands in the whole wide world!!!
The only reason I can’t give it 5 stars is because some of the items in there are way to expensive for the quality. I’m specifically referring to the clothing.
Oh and the staff are always super friendly. There is always someone in the dressing room area available to help you with fetching sizes etc.

You want HOW much for that skirt? Really? I don’t think anyone will pay … ah … that is my housemate at the till. I better speak to her.
this sums it up for me. I like their stuff, but it;s not my price range. My housemates loves it and I basically go there to get vouchers for her and watch her shopping. I like going though the shop as they have this amazing living wall and they provided chairs and other seating arrangements for tired husbands, boyfriends and housemates.

I am obsessed with how awesome this shop is, from its whole design concept down to its homely interiors I can’t afford anything in this store though, I mean, £200 for a papier-​mâché zebra’s head?! Still worth a visit though.

Anthropologie… you are so so damn… so damn cute. URG. I love just coming in here. It’s so damn pretty.
Beware of women with googly eyes throughout the shop. Even more so, watch out for your wallet because that pretty dress will eat it up.
I’ve been a fan of Anthro in the states, and I have to say, sometimes it looks like they just slapped £ signs over $ signs! The conversion is not pretty. But at least the European Anthropologie shops actually house a lot of European brands like Missoni and Barbour
If you can wait for a sale, it may be worth it! Their sale room is HUGE. But then it gets quite crowded with all the googly eyed women.

I am neither a lover or hater when it comes to Anthropologie. Having never been interested in their clothes I cannot judge that end of their business. Now their home section is pretty good on the other hand.
Littered with knick-​knacks and interesting statement pieces, their home items (glassware, bedding, books, door knockers, etc) are the types of items you might expect to find in a charity shop or a antique market.
Now to the store: Staff were throughout asking if you needed help (both annoying as well as helpful in times of need), store separated its wares very well and the plant life wall was stunning to behold and innovative.
To tell you the truth I spent most of my time in awe of the plants that were from floor to ceiling as it was such a visual impact to the eyes. Even if you do not like the products, stop by to look at the wall. That bit is worth it.

General consensus:
Anthro YOU SUCK for being SO AWESOME and making us poor, innocent girls spend all our hard earned cash. We simply cannot help it, and it it totally your fault for being so addictive.
Sort of like McDonald’s. They sprinkle a little crack over every fry, just to keep ya coming back.
Except with bows.
(Really cool wall plants here. Otherwise, go to the Kings Road location, I just avoid this part of town like plague during tourist season.)

Anthropologie is my overlord. It is the reason I spend all year saving up money and living on soup for dinner just so when I visit America I can spend a months wages on candles, bookmarks, tea cups and cardigans.
Anthropologie smells good, is enormous (spread over three floors) and just has stylish retro things you cannot find anywhere else.
It is hard to fault and yes I am ashamed of myself for loving a big corporate juggernaut like Anthropologie. Just go and see all the beautiful things in there, you will not be disappointed if you have at least one tiny aesthetic bone in your ear.

It’s hit or miss with me and Anthropologie… they either have nothing I like or have too many goodies to chose from. And there are times when I feel they are way over priced for the quality and material of some of their things (but I do love plunging into their sales room) This is a very nicely designed store with multiple levels and plenty to chose from. They are getting 3 stars from me because of their sales staff and that damned dressing room area!
They were not too terribly helpful with finding things (ie. I asked for a different size of something while in the dressing room and got tired waiting for the girl to come back with it. Met her as I was leaving and was told they didn’t have the other size) And the line to get a room to try things on was just ridiculous! I’ve never had to wait that long for a room in any other store no matter how busy.
Wish I had purchased one dress I tried on as it is not in my size at my local Anthro store. C’est la vie! Online order here I come.

Damn you, Anthropologie. Damn. You.
With all of the amazing independent boutiques I’m surrounded by, with all of the incredible design talent that lives, breathes and thrives in London, you drag me off my couch and out of my cozy neighbourhood on a Saturday — to the crowded hell that is Regent’s Street, no less — to marvel at your charms. (And your dresses… and your shoes… and your accessories… and your homewares…)
I hate that you know me so well. My every thought and desire. My every wish and dream. You’re like the devil… and you know I can’t resist a bad boy, so it’s all a part of your evil conniving plan, I’m sure. If you lowered your prices, I’d truly be convinced you were Beelzebub himself. (Do it… I dare you… please?)

I’m a die hard anthropologie fan, so will be the first to admit that I am not the most unbiased reviewer in that respect. When I lived in the US, it was a frequent stop on my way home from work to browse and shop the sale rack– which is the true trick of an anthro connoisseur. But first, the Regent Street Store.
Spread across three levels (sales in the basement), it’s a feast for the eyes. The «living wall» is a design junkie’s dream, with plants (ivy, peace lilies and other lush greenery) literally growing up all three stories. Cleverly disguised drainage feed the live plants presumably from the rooftop, making it not only an interesting feature but living «green» art. Like all Anthropologie stores, it’s decorated with antique (or antique-​looking) furniture juxtaposed with contemporary art (a sculpture made from rusted steal beams? Love it!) used to display their wares. Quirky, feminine, vintage with a modern twist and simply beautiful– from clothes to décor, it’s my kind of place.
Onto the clothes themselves. Yes, they can be overpriced (although there seems to be a decent mix– some things that you wouldn’t expect to be expensive are, and vice versa). But the real trick is watching the sale racks. Most of the stores have an entire room devoted to sales, and if you’re a calculated shopper, you can get beautiful things for a steal (or, at least nearer to cost). The sale racks seem to turn over (and be replenished) quickly but unlike other shops, it’s not only the XL and teeny sizes that are on sale– making it even better. I very rarely buy anything at anthro NOT on sale– and some of my best deals have been at nearly 90% off– a pair of slacks for 15 GBP; a 150 GBP cardigan for 9.99. Not bad at all.
In all? Super excited for this brand to have hit the UK– and I’ll keep coming back.

I waffled forever on how many stars to give this shop.
On one hand most of the staff were friendly and nice and helpful.
On the other hand some staff were rude and the layout was less than ideal with having to squeeze past racks of clothes to get to the fun stuff at the back.
It is a great store though and if you can avoid the rude staff member, it’s a fantastic shopping expereince!

Anthropologie may be a little on the expensive side — but my how pretty all the products are. The downstair area is full of the type of kitchen knick-​knacks that wouldn’t look out of place in Sophie Dahl’s kitchen — think overpriced plates with pictures of the Eiffel Tower and deliciously scented kitchen candles.
There are similarities with Urban Outfitters, but it’s safe to safe that Anthropologie is the slightly older sister — the prices are definitely for those on more ‘adult’ incomes. The clothes might be a little too expensive for my tastes — but downstairs are where the real treasures lie. I would recommend the store as a great place to go to buy slightly more unusual gifts for your friends and family.

My first experience of Anthropologie was in New York years ago. I absolutely loved it and was heart broken to find out it wasn’t in the UK.
Finally the day arrived and the first shop opened on Regent Street. Maybe I’m a more cynical shopper now and harder to please but I wasn’t that impressed. It’s a massive shop over 3 floors with a very precarious stair case, I don’t recommend wearing heels! Pretty stuff but over priced for what it is.
I always look forward to US brands coming over the pond but always disappointed as they are usually over priced and over hyped :(

I stumbled across this amazing store without knowing anything about it. It is the sort of place to get completely lost in, but in a good way. I like the random selection of clothes, homewares and nicknacks. It reminded me of shopping in America — in a good way. Downtown New York rather than suburban shopping mall. Reading the other reviews, it all starts making sense.
I have been back several times now, actually making sure to walk down Regent Street whenever I am in the area. Mind you, so far I haven’t bought a thing. I just hope they make a sale every now and again to keep going and providing me with a backdrop for my dreams of pre-​9/​11. Make that loads of big purchases, as somehow they have to keep going a massive shop stretching across three storeys, all stuffed full of goodies.

Brought to you by the same people as Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie is like UO’s older and more affluent sister. Personally I don’t understand the pricing in here at all; random scabby old artist easels are on sale for a thousand quid, one dress will cost £100 and then the next £500, a block of quartz (which you could pick up off the floor in parts of the country) with a ribbon around it is £100.
Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t help think this place is run by very uncool, but very very smart, 50 year old fat dudes in chinos who sit in their office high fiving each other and shouting «CA-​CHING!!!», whilst they fleece another mug punter for their shiny pet rock.

It’s been open for barely a month and already fast becoming my favorite store. I’ve raved about it with the american Unilocalers who obviously knows all about the magic of anthropologie and were either like «yeah, whatever, it’s from the US» or «I know, soooo exciting!»
So what’s so amazing? Well to start off with, the shop has a wall of plants on it. And hair accessories that comes in candy jars. Then they seem to have imported a storage unit of american sales girls who all wear special forces style head pieces, are super friendly and super american dream (in the totally girl-​next-​door-​but-​totally-​not-​acrocombie-​and-​finch-​and-​less-​jealous-​inducingly-​hot way).
It sells amazing dresses and great jewelry and the home ware department ain’t bad either. The sales room is (whispers) amazing. Like totally current things and barely damaged items at low low prices.
The only thing is anthropologie pounds equals anthropologie US dollars, and it was pretty expensive to being with. Also with all that silk clothing they are selling, my dry cleaning bill is going to be HUGE. Like GDP of a 3^rd world nation HUGE. And for that, I am going to take a star off.

I’ve been waiting patiently for this shop to open for the last 8 months. And I expecting to be wowed. But I’m not. And I’m a bit annoyed.
Because the prices are honestly all over the shop. As Alex said, how can you pay £10 for a cup and then hundreds for an ugly bird ornament? There’s no understanding about why some things are so much.
The layout is pretty exhausting. Everything is all over the place so you have to stay and look at everything. And don’t get me wrong, some of the stuff is really lovely, but there are very few pieces worth what they’re charging. And they’re vastly hiking up the margins from being an overseas shop. We’re not stupid, we know what things cost.
If you like the whole mis-​matched vintage look, you will like it here, but I can’t imagine the average buyer spending an awful lot of money here. Those expensive bird ornaments are going to be looking might tatty after a few weeks of being pawed by tourists.
Come in, fall in love with a few things, put them back after looking at the price. And then do what we did and be inspired. I’ve got some scientific equipment coming my way from eBat after seeing their conical flask shaped vases — they were £30. Mine was £1.80.
I’m an interiors writer, so I’m not against spending money on good stuff for my home (in fact, just try and stop me) but I also know when something just isn’t worth the money, no matter how pretty it seems on the surface. Not impressed, even if the living wall is quite cool.

I’ve always been somewhat obsessed with their flagship New York store and was thrilled when I heard they were bringing their eclectic mix of homewares and clothing to London.
Perhaps I just wasn’t in a shopping mood. Or I’ve become too familiar with Liberty’s equal or superior offerings. Maybe I’m finally over monograms (two different ranges of monogrammed mugs, as well as at least four different collection of wooden or metal letters on offer) Whatever happened, I was underwhelmed by the design and the range on offer. It will be interesting to see how the stock in their second London store will differ — this seems to be attempting to cement Anthropologie as a luxury brand.
The basement home department is definitely worth a look. It’s the sort of place you go to buy a £15−30 present for a girlie girlfriend — a pretty apron or one of their teatowels. Alternatively there are felted sheep at £298 each. Why not get a flock of those? Just what you never knew you always wanted.
