I love curry. I especially love trying new curry dishes and experiencing a taste sensation of spices exploding in my mouth. I was intrigued by Anokha when I stumbled across it whilst looking for somewhere for dinner with friends near Farringdon. I’d read the Unilocal review from Brian H about it being located in an old East India Tea warehouse and reviews of it being pretty good curry. I saw some more unusual dishes on the menu and with it being 50% off with taste card it stunned like a great option. The actual building and décor is nice, but there wasn’t really any evidence of it being an old tea warehouse as far as I could tell. I love history of buildings so would have liked to see something about it. When we arrived, there was a table of two and that was it in the whole restaurant. They left at some point whilst we were eating and no one else dined that evening. It meant it was pretty quiet in there, but perhaps it’s busier on other days(we were there on Monday). Considering it was so quiet, the service could have been better — quicker to take our order, give us the bill etc. They were polite though. We ordered poppadoms, starters and mains each. The chutneys/raita that came with the poppadoms were good but I would have liked more of each one. They were presented in cute little copper pots though. For starter I had paneer tikka and then went got a duck cooked with mango, yoghurt and tamarind for my main. It’s quite unusual to have duck curry over here and I chose it because it’s different to any fish I’ve had before. I think the paneer needed a bit more flavour but I was impressed with the duck. I really enjoyed the sauce and the meat was tender. One of my friends had the passander but said it was far too heavy with cream. Overall, I’d say there are much better curries to be had in London and for better value. It wasn’t bad though and worth going if you’re in the area, you fancy a curry and you have a taste card.

My favourite Indian Restaurant in London. It is located in grade II listed historic building, which was originally two of London’s last remaining tea warehouses, completed in 1729 and first owned by the infamous East India Tea Company. The Indian menu features authentic, traditional favourites as well as creative, Asian fusion dishes all made with the freshest ingredients and an eye toward light, healthy eating. And the selection of fish dishes — monkfish, salmon, sea bass — is unique among City Indian restaurants. Just a stone’s throw from the Gherkin Tower and a minute’s stroll from the Lloyds Tower, Anokha just can’t be beaten for great Indian food… keep it up guys you’re doing a great job

I had a nice meal and everything was prepared properly. This is an Indian restaurant with a little bit of modern vibe. The staff was attentive and kind

Quick glance: + modern chic Indian + large portion size + staff with good sense of humour — although service can be variable The venue is tucked away in Burgon Street but worth a visit if you fancy Indian food near Blackfriars area. The food is tasty and comes in good sized portion, served in modern chinaware and dishes for an upscale feel. The place isn’t very big, but the tables are spaced well apart so you have plenty of room to eat and converse without overhearing other people’s conversations. One of the waiter has quite a good sense of humour, but others are a bit forgetful. For example, we asked for a drink for a latecomer to our party and it never arrived. However, the staff generally are amicable and the food is good and decently priced.

There isn’t much around Blackfriars is there? This place is tucked away on Burgon Street. The décor is modern chic and I think my group was the only one there on a Tuesday night. A friend of mine booked it with her Taste card(50% off!) and overall thought the food was good. I had the lamb shank and it was uh may zing! Yes, it lacked a bit of the usual punch you get from Indian food but I find that this place is better than most I’ve been to.

Great ambience. Unfortunately, the food did not taste like an authentic indian food. I have been to several countries and have dined at hundreds of Indian Restaurant. The food was bland despite it was supposed to be medium spicy. It was a waste of time and money.
