Abercorn House

Wirklich positiv ist, dass ich selten ein so (!) sauberes Hostel erlebt habe. Sowohl das Zimmer, als auch die Bäder, als auch die Küchen waren wirklich extrem sauber.
Die Lage ist auch gut. Die U-​Bahn-​Station Hammersmith ist nur wenige Gehminuten entfernt und in der selbigen ist ein Tesco (Supermarkt) ansässig. Praktisch.
Leider ist der Service nicht so toll. Ohne Vorankündigung wurde unserer Gruppe bei Anreise mitgeteilt, dass es einen Wasserschaden gab und daher keine Doppel– sondern nur noch Viererzimmer verfügbar wären. Ich bin mir ziemlich sicher, dass diese News nicht völlig überraschend kamen und man das leicht vorher per Mail hätte mitteilen können.
Eigenartig ist außerdem, dass es zwar mehrere Küchen, aber keinen einzigen Topf und keine einzige Pfanne im ganzen Hostel gibt.
.und dass das Wifi 1Pfund pro Stunde kostet, finde ich in der heutigen Zeit schon fast unverschämt.

The Good: The Abercorn, as of August 2013, has been renovated. The bathrooms and showers are clean and the rooms seemed new. There are new closets, microfridges and drawers. In our double, there was silverware and plates for two people as well. For what we paid, we got a very clean room. From what I can tell (it’s been 2 weeks now) there were no bed bugs. There are kitchens that you can use — we didn’t see anything too cook with, but we did make use of the toaster and the microwave.
Transportation to the Abercorn was very easy. It is about a 2 or 3 minute walk from the Hammersmith Underground station. We used the Piccadilly line for a lot of the time we were in London for easy access to South Kensington, Soho, and Heathrow. If we weren’t using the Piccadilly line, we used the District line which also goes out of Hammersmith.
The Bad: You have to pay a fair bit for Internet and laundry. The Internet connection, however, is pretty good and I don’t have too many complaints on that end. Additionally, there are no elevators which means that having rooms on higher floors can be annoying.
The Ugly: I saw a few beetle things that might have been cockroaches. They didn’t seem big enough to be cockroaches, but remember that they exist. Having just got back from Kenya though, they didn’t seem particularly frightening.
In summary, it wasn’t a Ritz Carlton, but it was good for how much we paid.

This place is on the Hammersmith stop off of the Central or Picadilly line. My only issue with this place is the internet, you have to pay 1 lb for 1 hr continuous use or 5 lb for 5 hours can be used anytime. Our room was clean, bed was comfortable, and comforter kept us warm. Our room also had our own fridge that didn’t smell, that was a plus. The bathroom had enough space to shower but not enough counter space for the bathroom sink. I understand the choice of flooring material they used but it didn’t feel that great on the feet. The bathroom also smells, they need to air out the bathrooms better or use a different cleaning solution. Once you enter the lobby area, you immediately get the sense that it is very business oriented run establishment. The people were friendly and even let you use the luggage storage area without a fee! A good thing about this place is that there are tons of places to eat and a Tesco market, all within walking distance. I suspect that is one of the reasons why this hostel got rated fairly highly. I wouldn’t mind staying here again, but not for a prolonged period of time. This place is just okay. They also have coin up laundry within the building. Last additional perk is that they have a map that gives you 20% off to most of the major attractions (ie Shakespeare’s Globe, Tower Bridge, and London Dungeon)

Last thing I noticed when I got back to the states was that I had TONS of bug bites. They looked like bed bugs. I would be hesitant to try this place again because I do seriously think they have beg bugs. Luckily, none of them came back with me to the states. I was so worried that I was about to call the exterminator, luckily we had no new bites once we came back to the states. BEWARE OF BED BUGS HERE!!!

Auberge sympa, même si vous né serez pas étouffé par l’amabilité du personnel.
Les chambres individuelles sont propres, les draps sont changés tous les 3 jours (je n’ai pas testé les autres).
Les moins: certaines chambres sont en face d’un chantier permanent et les murs sont épais comme des feuilles de papier, c’est vraiment gênant
Détail important: N’est accepté que le cash et le wifi est payant (cher).

Our room on the first floor was super clean and new. The bathrooms, shower rooms and kitchen were also rather clean for a hostel. (very impressive actually) Every floor also offers a kitchen or 2?, so that’s a nice way to keep the costs low when you cook and eat in for breakfast and dinner once or twice.
Super convenient, close to a Tesco supermarket for cheap food, and right by Hammersmith station.
Only complaint is the lack of Free Wi-Fi…and a bit more service and explanation of the facilities would have been appreciated. I wasn’t even aware of the Laundry room until we stumbled upon it on the last day of our stay.

I stayed for a few nights during the queen’s Diamond Jubilee. Had a wonderful time and would definitely stay again. It’s in a great area for food, shopping, and public transit, and is very close (by tube) to central London, and to fun areas like Notting Hill & Portabello Road. Everything you need is within 5 minutes walking distance. Also perfect for access to Heathrow airport, with no train changes (which is so nice when you’re hauling luggage).
Some parts of the hostel are old; mine was brand new and very nice. Be sure to request a new room. I had a private double (40L/​night). My room had a refrigerator, dishes, desk, wardrobe, heater, and very comfortable bed. There were lots of showers, bathrooms, and kitchens. Very quiet and private.
They have good WiFi available for 1L/​hour, and very inexpensive snacks and food in a small café available ²⁴⁄₇. I was shocked by how clean the hostel room and the shower/​bathroom facilities were… cleaner than some 3-​star hotels I’ve stayed in.
The area feels very safe. Not the best hostel or area for partying, but if you want a quite, clean, comfortable, safe place at a great price close to central London, this is the place.
My only recommendation to Abercorn is that they invest in more sound-​proof doors.
