Popped in here whilst on a little recce of Allerton(not been to this neck of the Liverpool woods for a while) and was immediately drawn in by the lovely window display… and I wasn’t disappointed when I stepped in either. This gift shop stocks a mixture of charming and unusual Liverpool themed gifts, elegant homewares and gorgeous toiletries and fragrances(what me and my mum call ‘smellies’) and it’s a mixture that works! I was very impressed with the collection of artworks available in there and was delighted to see they stock the Liverpool Landmarks series of coasters and placemats by artist Jacky Al-Samarrie which I have been collecting. I now how a fifth coaster and I’m just getting going! The owner and manager Julie was absolutely lovely and so helpful, taking my details so she could contact me directly when the next stock of coasters come in! Voglio is a great example of local, independent business getting it right. Congratulations guys!

This is a cute little gift shop that also stocks some absolutely adorable kitchenware. You can find gifts here for any female on your list whether she is 3 or 93. They sell decorative items, plush, stationary, gifts, you name it. Anything you can think of that’s fairly girly and cute. It reminds me a little bit of Utility on Bold Street, but a little more high end. They also sell cards and gift wrap so you can finish your little gift buying expedition all in this one shop if you want to.

Inspirational gift ideas? Debateable, certainly gift fillers when you’re stuck for ideas but then that’s not nearly as catchy. Looking around at the array of gifts I assumed that this place sold only paperweights. That seems to be the main function of many of these brightly coloured ornaments and ‘gadgets’. Voglio is definately a good place if your cash is burning a hole in your pocket as original Michael Graves’ kettles and Phillipe Stark lemon juicers can be found here which are of course pieces of design genius but have also become ubiquitous design copies in much cheaper forms in almost every home store so spending nearly £200 on a kettle is a tad extravagant in my book.

Much like Utility in the city centre, Voglio is the home to all useless items the majority of which are expensive(which everyone wants). They’re the kind of things that you buy the person who has everything: a statue of a lamb banana or a liver bird in loads of bright colours, a funky designer watch, a hand-decorated piggy bank(which would cost more to buy than would fit in it!) They have some gold guilded champagne flutes, baby gifts which are really cute and the usual extra special cards and giftwrap. My favourite? The bunny salad forks. Pointless but amazing!

I totally love Voglio mainly for it’s baby gifts. Just next door to Veranda which is oh so expensive, on allerton road. This place is spot on for gifts, some products are ok price wise but it certainly is on the higher end of the price range for other goods. I love it as I said for the baby gifts, in particular, I found a brilliant baby bib made by Built, they have four different types, one of which had lots of colourful dots on, with a cool flap for catching all the food that doesn’t go in the baby’s mouth. Second on my love list were the luxury ducks made by JustDucks for when it comes to bathtime. A really good selections of coloured ducks — checked ducks, an england flag duck and many more.
