The Waldeck is an average sized drinking establishment on Lawrence road. With a fairly shabby exterior and similar interior it isn’t anything to write home about. It has a sport focus with sky TV on tap and screens dotted about the pub, it has drinks offers on occasionally such as the current four bottles of Budweiser for £6. Other pubs around have similar drink deals going for slightly cheaper prices such as the Cambridge. It’s evident that most of the small pubs in the area are trying to attract more student loan money, but to be honest the Brookhouse and more student orientated pubs would be a better choice for atmosphere and for cheap deals.

The Waldeck is like the anti-Tardis. From the outside it looks fairly large and accommodating. Step inside however and you’ll find yourself pressed up against furniture, games machines, customers or all of the above. A high ceiling coupled with narrow floorspace make you begin to wonder if they haven’t just built the damn place on its side. Like a barking auntie at a Christening, Lawrence Road itself is quite mad and its good to see that this swirling, intangible sense of quiet lunacy has permeated the building of the Waldeck itself. Its not that everyone here is completely unhinged but you get the feeling that you could loudly argue with a carrot and it would only be a matter of minutes before other people joined in.
