The Parkfield Inn is situated on the busy Lark Lane. It is different to most of the pubs on Lark Lane as it has a more traditional feel. The clientele here are mostly middle aged and older people, and mainly men. They are friendly and welcoming even if you seem to fit in to the normal age group. The pub isn’t very large. The bar downstairs is fairly small but is well stocked and even when it is busy the staff work hard to ensure that you don’t have to wait too long. They have a good range of beers, ales, spirits, wine, alcopops, ciders and soft drinks. The prices are reasonable compared to some of the trendier bars on the lane. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and this is an excellent place to go for a quiet drink.

There’s been a few times I’ve mourned streets that don’t have proper pubs left on them. Lark Lane could be one of these if it weren’t for the fact that one of its ambassadors for traditional pubbery is the Parkfield Inn. In that case, forget it. Make every business a vibrant tapas bar if it means they don’t have to end up like this place. Pretty much a long corridor probing deep into the building, the pub offers an alternative from the lane’s norm of ‘good’. With its sad, shabby innards and scattering of wheezing regulars, I wouldn’t mind the pub so much if it stood miles from anywhere in some derelict neighbourhood. But it doesn’t. Hell, even being next to Rhubarb dooms it. Decent enough for a quiet hiatus, I wouldn’t recommend this place for a night in which you crave fun.

For a while, The Parkfield was one of the few real pubs left down the Lane as the trend grew for tapas bars and restaurants, but that wasn’t necessarily because it was the best pub around, it just seemed that most of its punters had been going there since the war. This is a traditional pub in the fullest sense and a good idea of this can be seen from its jukebox — anyone under the age of 30 will be hard pushed to get your money’s worth of tunes from a quid! However with two floors, the Parkfield has handily served both Liverpool and Everton fans on matchdays which ensures a lively saturday/sunday afternoon and now that Rhubarb has opened next door it seems decent pubs are returning to the Lane once again.
