I go past this pub on a daily basis so I decided to check it out. Once I got through the crowd of smokers who were clustered around the door I made it inside. The pub is quite big but is very very dark and can be difficult to take in until your eyes adjust to the dark.
The people inside seem to consist of regulars who are probably there from opening to close every day. Hunched over tables, chewing the fat with friends they’ve known since they were young.
The staff are friendly enough and are quick to serve you, but you do get the feeling of the whole room watching you from the moment you walk in, in an «are you local?» manner.

Why is it always the pubs with the best names that turn out to be the ones you’d least likely to visit again? Case in point, the Old Omnibus. Doesn’t that name just make you think of some cosy tavern on a hectic London side-​street from the 19th century? It’s pretty much the opposite.
I strolled into this big, dark cavern of a pub on a Thursday afternoon and found the only customers to be ancient, wheezing men cradling pints and slowly forgetting that their wife died a decade ago. Since they clearly don’t organise a night here, these odd old men simply cluster round tables in accordance with who else is there. Then they sit in silence until one leaves. There’s a murmur of «Take care, Geoff» before the silence descends once more.
