i was so very pleased when a Subway Franchise opened just down the road from me. I had bough Subway sandwiches in the city centre before but there was no out of town branch close to me, until now. This branch of subway is quite small. it has the usual range of sandwich fillings, types of bread, salads, sauces and other ingredients for your sandwich, wrap or salad. It also sells cookies, muffins, hot drinks and soft drinks. It has about 10 tables for customers to eat their food at but I’ve rarely seen more than one of these tables being used at any one time. The tables always seem to be clean and tidy, but they will be if no one is using them. The opening house here are rather limited, being from 9.30am-5.30pm in the week. This means that people about to travel into the city centre for work cannot pick up a coffee and/or a breakfast sub before getting the bus or train, and by the time I get back here after work it is closed so I can’t get a sub for tea either. it’s a shame as this subway franchise could be very convenient otherwise.

Story of the subway is similar to that of the walkman in the 80s. You see we never needed them really but were made to believe we cannot live without them. There is a subway on every corner these days. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels this way but I genuinely cannot go without a subway, I have to go at least once a week. Either sub of the day, or a foot long steak and cheese please. Italian herb and cheese bread, peppered cheese and toasted thank you. Salad? Well I always hesitate to say everything because they just ram the sandwich full of the stuff so that the meat is left as the ethnic minority in there. The solution? Bit of lettuce jelapinos an gerkins please. Sauce? South west + light mayo = boom!!! Add a white chocolate cookie and you are laughing all the way home. God damn… that tastes good!!! Happy days!

Staying on a breakfast tip, Subway do a range of Breakfast Subs that can be ordered to eat in or take away. There’s bacon, sausage, bacon and egg, sausage and egg or a mega breakfast that includes all of the above. For the truly hungry, they’ll even add a portion of melted cheese and of course, they also serve coffee, tea and Tropicana orange juice. Would I order one of their Subs myself? Not on your life. I value my stomach far too much to eat six inches of spongey bread and fried food first thing in the morning!
