This place will in spire you on a cold wintery pudlian evening. This eatery has a very decent reputation in the region never mind just the Pool. Having won a plethora of foodie awards has helped cement the diner’s sentiments. The décor is good as is the food. As is the case when you visit an award winning restaurant however you find that the price of an average main is higher than it is worth. As much as awards are confirmation of quality one should still always take them with a pinch of salt, and discover the place for yourself before bigging it up. So pay it a visit, and try the roasted chump of lamb, braised shoulder, swede purée, Parisienne of vegetables. I recommend it however I also should let you know it will set you back around £16!!! I’m not one to moan normally about pricing of quality food as amazing food is priceless almost. However I have been to enough eateries to know what is worth what. While the food here is good, I know it’s not quite worth that much compared to other eateries I’ve been.

The setting is smart and stylish with polished wooden floors, brickwork and a wrought iron staircase. Seating is set out over two floors and there is plenty of room between tables — full marks! The brasserie or lunchtime menu is modern European and the evening menu has a definite British leaning. I have to focus on the desserts as they are always the most important part of the meal for me. So, price wise the desserts are a little more than I would usually pay, £5 is normally my limit. However, desserts at Spire have to be the exception for me, at £6−7, but happy to pay this given the quality. So, they have toffee pannacotta, hazelnut ice-cream, home-made shortbread; hot chocolate fondant with honeycomb ice cream and marinated raspberries; warm treacle tart with raspberry ripple ice cream; vanilla cheesecake with lemon curd ice cream; selection of ice creams or selection of five hand-picked cheeses with miller damsel biscuits and homemade chutney. Wow oh wow diddly wow!

Over in Wavertree you’ll find the Michelin-recommended Spire, which is certainly worth the effort to find and the additional expense of being such a highbrow restaurant. However there are plenty of fixed price meals with multiple courses that are excellent value, so even if you’re feeling a little light in the pocket department you can still enjoy a highly accolade restaurant. The service here is really top notch, it can occasionally be a little slow but it’s friendly and attentive and that’s what ultimately matters. Even the owner gets involved which is always a good sign. There’s a wonderful atmosphere and the décor is more than gorgeous, but it’s the food that’s the star here, especially the crispy squid starter with chilli sauce and pak choi. Mouthwatering deliciousness. There’s no particular food ‘theme’ here other than painfully hip and modern, hence why you’ll find gnocchi and mushrooms accompanying turbot on the same menu, but I loved all the combinations. The portions aren’t massive as you’d expect from a restaurant like this, but they’re certainly sufficient enough. The unhurried ambience really adds to the quality of the place and you feel like you can relax, and the staff seem to genuinely want to listen to you. The desserts are stunning as well. All in all, all boxes ticked — attention to detail here is paramount and that’s reflected in the quality.

Spire is a restaurant which achieves an «in-town» feel but is actually situated out of town. The restaurant has achieved many awards including Liverpool Restaurant of the Year — all of which are deserved in my opinion. The menu is a mixture of Modern European and British food which isn’t too pricey for the calibre of restaurant — a main meal will set you back about £16. The interior is clean cut and modern with an atmosphere that immediately puts you at ease. I think this is a difficult task considering that Spire is home to some of the best chefs in the North West.
