Pod which I also refer to as the«cosy little wine bar» has kept its charm while surrounding bars have seen more change. Pod attracts mainly 35+ customers who go there to enjoy a good atmosphere, cosy surroundings and a nice glass of wine, Pod also has a fantastic tapas style menu in the evening, the food is exceptional, in my experience you only need to order 3 choices max and you’ll find yourself full as the food is very rich and 100% delicious /slightly pricey. An excellent choice of venue for a special occasion, however if you’re searching for a quiet romantic meal then Pod wouldn’t be the place I’d go as it’s got a hustle & bustle feel to it. I love the candles on each of the old school desk style tables, the friendly staff, the sophisticated customers this bar attracts, there’s never any trouble that I’ve experienced. Only negative for me is the bar closes earlier than others, I would suggest Pod ring their last orders later and on occasions we’ve felt a little annoyed by the stacking of chairs on tables before we’ve finished our drinks — a little unprofessional, which is a comment shared by others who enjoy Pod also. So Pod treat your customers at the end of the night as you did throughout the day & night and you’ll get full marks next review !

Pod is a tapas style Spanish restaurant along Allerton Road, and doesn’t seem to be quite as popular as it used to be. The usual clientele are students or young professionals as the restaurant is the unique idea of the Liverpool Hope University’s graduates. The décor is oretty simple, not plain, but simple which is a nice idea as it creates a really airy and open atmosphere, the only problem is the dodgy seats… you just can’t get comfy. The food is pretty good, but not as good as my little La Tasca… similar style tapas but it just doesn’t have the romanticism about it. I’d recommend the Lebanese chicken — it’s pretty yum.

An interesting place put together by graduates from the Liverpool Hope University’s Owner-Manager training course. The basis of its food are tapas drawn from cuisines international, and numbering a choice of around thirty. I only stopped for one of my occasional coffee’s of the year. I needed to sit, chill out and get ready for the rest of my jobs. So Pod was very welcoming and suited to what I needed it for. I can’t make comment on the food or the wine(I have heard that the wine list needs improving but food is really good). So next time I am in the area I will sample the food and get back to you on my verdict.

We couldn’t stop here for food as plans had been made for the nearby Other Place restaurant but a quick drink before hand was easily accomodated. Looking at the menu I don’t think I missed too much as once again a selection of tapas was the main offering like many of the venues along Allerton Rd and the prices seemed a little steep. However much of this is based only on spying other peoples plates and the bar itself was pleasant enough for a few glasses of wine from a good list.

Pod has been about a lot longer than the other wannabe bistros on Allerton Road, and therefore has a string of die-hard fans. Serving tapas-style food, it is simple and snacky and quite a nice place to relax, if only the damn chairs weren’t so uncomfortable! I’ve not seen it full in a long time, and I can’t understand why, as you would struggle to fault the food, bar or service. Perhaps with the clinical squarish wood tables and chairs and open spaces it struggles to lack atmosphere. But then again, it is not dissimilar to many other places on Allerton Road.
