Malabar Indian food store is exactly what you would think, a supermarket within Liverpool which provides you with tasty and authentic Indian ingredients to make that particular type of cuisine. The place is staffed by Indian people so you get the impression that they know exactly what they are talking about and although they can be a tad aloof and distant on the whole they are very helpful. The prices here are astonishingly good and if you fancy yourself as someone who makes good Indian food then get down here and buy your utensils at a bargain price. The Inside doesn’t look great but the main thing here is that the quality is very good and this is important when you are trying to create an air of authenticity. On the whole this place is well run and as I have already said if this type of cuisine interests you then go to Malabar and bag yourself a bargain to create an unforgettable meal.

Ginger Garlic Cinnamon Cloves Chillis Coriander seeds Cardamom Tumeric & Mint These are the flavours that hit you when you wander around Malabar. Incidentally, they’re also the flavours you use to make my favourite Indian dish in the world — Chicken Haleem from the Bollywood Cookbook. If you have the time and inclination to make the best dahl dish you’ll ever eat, invest in a copy of the book and go to Malabar to buy the ingredients. As well as all the herbs and spices I’ve listed above, you’ll need toor dahl(yellow lentils), moon dahl(split mung beans), channa dal(split gram dal), massor dal(split red lentils), urad dal(black lentils), fresh chicken, onions and lemons.

If you love ethnic food, but you’re tired of Chinese, why not do some Indian cooking? Malabar Indian Food Store on London Road in Liverpool can supply you with everything you need to make a tasty korma or chicken tikka masala. From spices to fresh fruit, from nuts and seeds to naan bread, you’ll find it all here, and more than you could imagine as well. Staff are friendly and helpful. I love shops like this, where people are willing to help you find what you need, and maybe even explain a little bit how to use the item you want.
